Grove City Walks Off Sharon; Summers Sets Sharpsville Passing Mark; Hinkson Pick Six’s Fuel Lakeview

GROVE CITY, Pa. – Jacob Stucchio’s 25-yard field goal lifted Grove City to a dramatic 17-14 win over previously unbeaten Sharon.

Sharon, which trailed 14-6, tied the game with 2:27 to play after Bishop Root intercepted Grove City quarterback Hunter Hohman and returned the ball to the 1-yard line, where it was punched in by Ike Friday. Mister Ham’s 2-point conversion toss to CC Harrison tied the game.

            

That set the stage for Stucchio, after Grove City marched down to the Sharon 8-yard line, where they faced a fourth-and-two with two seconds remaining.

The game was scoreless at halftime, with Joey Hathaway’s 3-yard touchdown run in the third quarter not only giving Grove City a 7-0 lead, but also marking the first points Sharon had allowed all season (they had shutout wins over Neshannock, Warren and Hickory).

Sharon answered with a 1-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter from Ham, but the Tigers still trailed 7-6 after the PAT failed.

Grove City countered with Hohman’s 10-yard touchdown pass to Nathan Greer to make it 14-6, setting the stage for the late-game dramatics.

Hohman 7-of-16 through the air for 93 yards and also carried 21 times for 127 yards. Hathaway had 44 yards rushing and 51 yards receiving, while Greer had 36 yards receiving.

                          

Ham was 18-of-24 through the air for 151 yards for the Tigers and also rushed for 51 yards on 11 carries. Cortez Nixon led the Tigers with 68 yards on 13 carries.

SHARPSVILLE 23, SLIPPERY ROCK 6

WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. – Caullin Summers became Sharpsville’s career passing yards leader as the Blue Devils moved to 4-0 with a 23-6 win over Slippery Rock.

Summers threw for 203 yards in the win, surpassing the previous Sharpsville record set by John Napotnik (4,597) in 1997.

Sharpsville built a 16-0 lead into the second quarter on the strength of a 10-yard touchdown run by Jaiden White and a 2-yard run by Summers.

Slippery Rock cut the lead to 16-6 at halftime on Eli Anderson’s 37-yard touchdown pass to Doug Popovec.

The only score of the second half came on White’s 31-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

Summers had 81 yards on the ground and White 68.

Anderson had 162 yards passing for Slippery Rock.

LAKEVIEW 46, MAPLEWOOD 0

                        

STONEBORO, Pa. – Danick Hinkson had two interception returns for touchdowns as Lakeview moved to 4-0 with a 46-0 win over Maplewood.

Both of Hinkson’s interception returns came in the first half on plays of 50 and 92 yards as the Sailors built a 34-0 advantage.

Three different Sailors – Leyton Zacherl, Aiden Osborne and Mitchell Tingley all scored on rushing touchdowns in the first half for the Sailors.

Tingley scored his second touchdown of the game on a 4-yard run in the third quarter, while Brayden Booher capped the scoring with a 29-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Tingley had 91 yards on the ground for the Sailors, while Zacherl threw for 147 yards.

HICKORY 41, WILMINGTON 21

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – Zander Telesz threw for 205 yards and three touchdowns as Hickory earned a 41-21 Region 3 win over Wilmington.

Telesz threw touchdown passes of 43 yards to William Acrie and 73 yards to Kelvin Morrison in the first half as the Hornets built a 28-7 halftime advantage.

Parker Hilliard started the game at quarterback for Hickory and connected with Tylon Cousin on a 16-yard touchdown run to open the scoring, which was followed by a 2-yard touchdown run by Sean Kennedy.

Luke Nevil hauled in a 35-yard touchdown pass from Telesz in the third quarter to make it 35-6 and eventually put the game out of reach.

         

Ashton Reader scored his second touchdown of the night, a 1-yarder, for Wilmington in the fourth quarter, while Buddah Book also had a 10-yard touchdown run in the second half for the Greyhounds.

Keenan Scullin scored Hickory’s final touchdown of the night on a 2-yard run.

Morrison finished with 100 yards receiving and 18 yards rushing for Hickory.

Ben Miller had 135 yards on the ground for Wilmington.

CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS 50, REYNOLDS 7

TRANSFER, Pa. – Cambridge Springs outscored Reynolds 32-0 in the second half to earn a 50-7 win and improve to 4-0.

Reynolds actually struck first at the 5:11 mark of the first quarter on Parker Nay’s 49-yard touchdown run.

The next 50 points belonged to Cambridge Springs, beginning with touchdown runs from Preston Gorton and Morgan Applebee.

Gorton scored on the first play from scrimmage in the third quarter, a 43-yard run, and the Blue Devils were off to the races.

Gorton scored his third touchdown of the game on a 1-yard run.

Jordan Washington, Brett Kania and Brandon Hoover also had rushing touchdowns in the second half for the Blue Devils

FARRELL 28, GREENVILLE 12

FARRELL, Pa. – Brandon Chambers returned the opening kickoff of the game 80 yards for a touchdown as Farrell improved to 4-0 with a 28-12 win over Greenville.

Greenville had the answer, courtesy of a Rudy Gentile 1-yard touchdown run to make it 8-6.

Kabron Smith made it 16-6 later in the first quarter on a 17-yard touchdown pass to Juju Phillips.

Smith’s second touchdown pass of the half, a 9-yarder to Danny Odem, made it 22-6 at halftime.

Chambers 6-yard touchdown run in the third quarter made it 28-6 Steelers before a fourth quarter touchdown run from Malachi Hyde.
