Ryen Rallies Clearfield Girls to Victory; Union, Clarion Get Close Wins

HYDE, Pa. – Riley Ryen scored nine of her team-high 13 points in the third quarter to help Clearfield rally from a nine-point halftime deficit on its way to a 47-43 home Mountain League win over Penns Valley.

The Lady Bison trailed 27-18 at halftime but behind Ryen, who went 5 of 6 from the line in the third quarter, they outscored the Rams 15-4 in the third quarter to take a 33-31 lead going to the final eight minutes.

Mie Helsel, Cayleigh Walker, and Hannah Glunt then each scored four points apiece in the fourth quarter with the trip combing to go 6 of 9 from the line in the quarter.

Glunt finished with 12 points with Walker and Helsel each scoring 10.

                                      

Free-throw shooting was key for Clearfield with the Lady Bison going 18 of 25 from the line in the win.

Scotty Dinges led Penns Valley with 14 points, while Julia Emel and Anna Marie McMurtrie had 10 each.

UNION 36, FOREST AREA 30

TIONESTA, Pa. – Hailey Theuret scored five points, all from the free-throw line, in the fourth quarter to help Union pick up a 36-30 win over Forest Area in KSAC Small School action at West Forest.

The teams were tied at 24 going to the final eight minutes before baskets from Cheyenne Dowling, Gracie Gallagher, and Ava Strauser along with Theuret’s free throws, she was 5 of 11 from the line in the quarter, helped the Golden Damsels separate for the win.

                          

Dowling led Union with 14 points with Katie Gezik scoring eight points.

Forest Area led 20-16 at halftime before Gezik and Dowling each scored four third-quarter points to help Union tie the game at the end of the third quarter.

Kaylie Rooke had a double-double of 10 points and 17 rebounds while adding five blocked shots for Forest Area with Jayden Colvin adding six points and five steals and Amber Guzzi six points.

CLARION 40, BROOKVILLE 32

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Outscoring homestanding Brookville 23-8 in the middle two quarters, Clarion overcame a slow start to pick up a 40-32 win.

The Lady Cats trialed 14-8 at the end of the first quarter but outscored the Lady Raiders 15-6 in the second quarter to take a 23-20 halftime lead.

Clarion then held Brookville to two third-quarter points while expanding its lead to 31-22 going to the fourth quarter.

Taylor Alston led a balanced attack for Clarion with 12 points with Sophie Babington adding 10 points, including eight in the second quarter, and Gia Babington and Marley Kline each finishing with six points in the win. Kline also grabbed 10 rebounds, while Alston had seven boards.

Eden Wonderling netted a game-high 17 points and 11 rebounds for Brookville with Samantha Whitling scoring eight points.

OTTO-ELDRED 45, COUDERSPORT 34

                                   

COUDERSPORT, Pa. – Building a 15-point halftime lead, Otto-Eldred picked up a 45-34 road NTL win over Coudersport.

The Lady Terrors led 30-15 at the break and were still up 14, 38-24, going to the fourth quarter.

Katie Sheeler led Otto-Eldred with 11 points, six rebounds, and four steals with Bri Heller adding nine points, five rebounds, and four steals.

Also for the Lady Terrors, Carrie Drummond had eight points and five rebounds, and Anna Merry added seven points, four steals, and three rebounds.

Emma Chambers had 13 points for Coudersport with Bel Porterfield adding nine.

PORT ALLEGANY 51, GALETON 14

PORT ALLEGANY, Pa. – Port Allegany celebrated Senior Night in style with a 51-14 NTL win over Galeton.

Nine different Lady Gators scored led by 13 points from Kayleigha Dowell.

Seniors Leigha Nelson (10 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals) and Evin Stauffer (9 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals) also played key roles for Port Allegany with Ella Moses chipping in four points and six rebounds.

Olivia Rohrbaugh led Galeton with seven points.

WEST BRANCH 70, CURWENSVILLE 29

MORRISDALE, Pa. – Jenna Mertz exploded for a game-high 34 points to lead West Branch past visiting Curwensville 70-29, in ICC North action.

Katrina Dowder added 10 points in the win.

Janelle Passmore had 10 points to pace Curwensville with Karleigh Freyer adding nine and Skylar Pentz eight.
