DUBOIS, Pa. – Down 13 late in the first half, Ridgway rallied on the road to beat DuBois Central Catholic, 51-48, in a key AML South contest.

Rewatch the game

The Lady Elkers (11-4 overall, 2-3 AML South) trailed 31-18 following a Hope Jacob layup for DCC (9-6, 2-3) with 1:10 to play before halftime.

But Ridgway scored four quick points – two each from Jenna Kasmierski and Kristen Ellenberger with Ellenberger’s coming with 10 seconds left in the half – to get within nine, 31-23 at halftime.

Still down eight, 33-25, early in the third quarter the Lady Elkers went on a quarter-ending 10-2 run to tie the game at 35 with Kasmierski scoring six of the 10 points and freshman Sophia Fullem tying the game on an offensive rebound and putback with 53.4 seconds left in the quarter.

“We are just fighting,” Kasmierski said. “We aren’t looking at the score. We went into halftime down nine, and there were almost four minutes left (in the third quarter) and we almost tied it up. We were just coming out with energy from the bench. It was amazing. We all had each others back.”

The fourth quarter then saw five lead changes and two ties before Kasmierski’s 3-pointer from the left corner with 1:49 to play gave Ridgway the lead for good, 49-48.

Lexi Berta had given DCC its last lead, 49-48, with a 3-pointer, her second of the quarter, with 3:27 to play.

But Julie Sebring, who had hit a big 3-pointer to give DCC a 45-44 lead earlier in the quarter, missed two free throws with 2:05 left before Kasmierski hit the go-ahead 3-pointer.

Ellenberger hit a free throw with 12.4 seconds left to push the lead to two before Ella Elensky missed a corner 3-pointer with two seconds left that would have won the game for the Lady Cardinals.

Kasmierski finished with a game-high 19 points with nine coming in the second half and 11 coming after she was moved to more of an inside role.

“Normally I come out and try to do more of an outside-in game,” Kasmierski said. “I realized by shots I kind of lost fire so I had to go inside to kind of get going again.”

Ellenberger added eight points for Ridgway with Gabby Amacher and Grace Bon each adding seven points.

Kayley Risser, who was questionable with an ankle injury that forced her to miss Wednesday’s win over Clearfield, had 16 points for DCC with Emma Elesnky adding eight and Hope Jacob seven.
