Region Rallying Behind Mason Martin, Karns City Community

Out of bad sometimes comes good.

With Karns City senior Mason Martin fighting for his life after suffering an injury during Friday’s football game, something good has begun to percolate.

Rivalries are being put aside, opponents are becoming friends, communities are coming together.

It started almost immediately Friday night as word spread of the injury and it has continued throughout the weekend including multiple teams, including Moniteau, Redbank Valley, DuBois, Union/A-C Valley, and Butler (far from a complete list) having players and coaches show up at the vigil held for Martin Sunday night at Karns City High School.

Ridgway, who is slated to play Karns City Friday night, has put together fundraising efforts

Central Clarion head coach Dave Eggleton, who is also an assistant principal at Clarion-Limestone, is asking everyone to wear Karns City purple to school on Tuesday.

That is a theme being seen throughout the area, as Redbank Valley is also planning the same thing as are other area schools.

Many area businesses have posted messages and/or made donations including the Sweet Gremlin in Karns City and the Allegheny Grille in Foxburg.

The prayers aren’t just coming from District 9.

Nearby, Slippery Rock High School football offered its support

Ken Moyers Sports Page, a Facebook page dedicated to covering Mercer County athletics, posted its support

As did Sports Radio 96.7 FM in Mercer County

Many churches throughout the area have held prayers for Martin, including the Oakland Church of God in Distant

Even the County Commissioners in Armstrong County lit up their courthouse in Karns City purple and gold

We have also seen many additional posts that aren’t public on Facebook letting people know that Martin, his family, and the Karns City family are in their thoughts and prayers.

This is just a tiny sample of the outpouring of support from around the region that shows what great communities make up the region and shows that in time of need areas like District 9 and District 10 step to the plate to help one and other.
