OIL CITY, Pa. – Oil City survived six straight missed free throws down the stretch to hold off visiting Brookville, 49-47.

Girls’ Recaps

The Oilers led, 49-46, following an offensive putback by Brookville’s Jack Pete following a missed 3-pointer by Kellan Haines.

After killing some clock, Oil City’s Ethen Knox was fouled. But Knox missed both free throws and Brookville’s Caleb Kornbau was fouled on an offensive rebound on the other side.

Kornbau hit one of two to get the Raiders within two.

Forced to foul again, Brookville sent Will McMahon to the line. McMahon, though, missed both charity shots.

On the other end, the Raiders worked the ball around looking for a good shot, but Haines ended up taking a desperation 3-pointer from the top of the circle with Steven Heise in his grill that was well short.

Knox got the rebound and was fouled with 4.4 seconds left.

The senior, however, missed both free throws. The rebound was battled for between Oil City’s Sayyid Donald and Jesse Lucas of Brookville with Lucas winning the battle.

Lucas tried a Hail Mary pass, but Brookville called timeout before the pass.

After an Oil City timeout as well, the Raiders inbounded from midcourt across from the benches, and a Haines desperation 3-pointer from the left wing was partially blocked by McMahon.
