Miller, Wilmington Power Past Mercer; Schwartz Leads Slippery Rock Past Greenville

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – Ben Miller accounted for four touchdowns as Wilmington powered past Mercer, 34-6.

Miller scored three of his four touchdowns in the first half as the Greyhounds built a 34-6 lead.

Miller scored on runs of 7 and 21 yards in the first quarter to stake the Greyhounds to a 14-0 lead.

Buddah Book’s 27-yard interception return made it 21-0 Greyhounds and they never looked back.

Parker Puskar gave Mercer some brief life with a 2-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter, but Miller returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown to answer.

            

Jamie Miller’s 10-yard touchdown run gave the Greyhounds their 34-6 advantage.

Miller’s 10-yard touchdown run in the third quarter put the running clock into effect.

Wilmington is now 2-1, bouncing back from a season-opening loss to Sharpsville with wins over Greenville and now Mercer.

SLIPPERY ROCK 14, GREENVILLE 7

GREENVILLE, Pa. – Sam Schwartz’s interception return for a touchdown with 9:04 left in the fourth quarter broke a 7-7 tie and lifted Slippery Rock to its first win of the season, 14-7 over Greenville.

                          

The two teams battled through most of the first half scoreless before some late fireworks.

Nick Solderich threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Cael Thurber with 1:15 to go before halftime to give Greenville a 7-0 lead.

Slippery Rock answered with a drive that took just over a minute, as Sam Schwartz hauled in a 2-yard reception from Eli Anderson to knot the score up at 7-7 at halftime.

Anderson threw for 116 yards, while Solderich had 130 yards through the air. Schwartz also had 61 yards receiving.
