ERIE, Pa. – McDowell built an 8-point halftime advantage and held off a scrappy Altoona team for a 38-34 victory in the PIAA Class 6A girls’ subregional on Tuesday.

Try as the Mountain Lions might to come all the way back, McDowell (16-4) was solid at the free-throw line down the stretch to preserve the win.
Jessica Hetz and Emina Selimovic both made five shots from the charity stripe for the Lady Trojans.
Hetz finished with a team-high 10 points, while Selimovic added nine, as did Sydney Keinath.
Adalynn Cherry led Altoona (11-7) with 13 points, including a pair of 3s, while Taylor Lane also knocked down a pair of shots from distance and finished with nine points.
With the win, McDowell advances to play WPIAL champion North Allegheny in the PIAA quarterfinals on Friday.
