McDowell Claims Fifth PIAA Co-Ed Competitive Spirit Title

HERSHEY, Pa. – McDowell is on top of the competitive spirit world once again.

The Trojans won a fifth PIAA championship in the co-ed division on Saturday, with their 2 ½ minute championship routine garnering a total of 81.87 points from the panel consisting of three judges.

Conrad Weiser finished in second with a score of 78.92, while New Oxford was third at 76.25.

This is the Trojans’ third title in the last four seasons, as they also took home PIAA gold in 2021 and 2022.

Their first two titles came in back-to-back fashion in 2017 and 2018.

In the Class 2A large school division, Elk County Catholic also qualified for the finals, where they took fourth with a score of 71.40.

Archbishop Ryan won the title with 84.27 points, followed by Richland (83.87) and Neshannock.

The Crusaders earned a berth in the finals with a semifinal score of 73.87, edging District 9 foe Karns City (69.13) and Hickory 66.57.

Both A-C Valley/Union and Harbor Creek made it to the Class 2A small school semifinals before bowing out. A-C Valley/Union finished the semis with a score of 65.60, while Harbor Creek was at 58.80.
