SOFTBALL

CURWENSVILLE 20, MOSHANNON VALLEY 5, 3 INNINGS

CURWENSVILLE, Pa. – Taylor Luzier went 4-for-4 with a double, four RBIs, and three runs scored to help Curwensville beat visiting Moshannon Valley, 20-5 in three innings in the season opener for both teams.

The Lady Tide trailed 1-0 after half an inning but exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the first to take control of the game. They then put the game in the books with a 10-run third inning.

   

                  

Mackenzie Wall added a pair of doubles while going 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, Natalie Wischuck was 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored, and three RBIs, and Shyanne Rudy had a double, two runs scored, and two RBIs for Curwensville.

Joslynne Freyer got the win in the circle going three innings allowing five runs, three earned, on three hits, four walks, and two hit batters while striking out four.

JOHNSONBURG 16, SMETHPORT 0, 3 INNINGS

JOHNSONBURG, Pa. – Scoring seven runs in both the second and third inning, Johnsonburg cruised to a 16-0, three-inning win over visiting Smethport in the season opener for both clubs.

Anna Duffield hit a home run and was 1-for-2 with a run scored and two RBIs for the Ramettes while Maria Casilio was 2-for-2 with a double, a walk, three runs scored, and two RBIs and Zoey Grunthaner was 2-for-2 with a double, a run scored, and three RBIs.

                          

Natalie Dunworth also drove in three runs and was 1-for-3 with a run scored, while winning pitcher Julia Jones walked three times and scored three runs.

Jones didn’t allow a hit while walking one and striking out seven in three innings of work,

Ashley Day took the loss going two-plus innings allowing 16 runs, 15 earned, on nine hits and nine walks while striking out one.

BASEBALL

               

WEST MIFFLIN 3, TITUSVILLE 0

VERO BEACH, Fla. – Garrett Knapp threw a strong game but Titusville fell to West Mifflin, 3-0, in Vero Beach, Fla.

Knapp went six innings allowing three runs, two earned, on eight hits and a walk while striking out one.

The Rockets, though, managed just four baserunners getting singles from Knapp and Ashton Burleigh, a walk from Kasen Neely, and a hit batter from Tanner Abrams against three West Mifflin pitchers.

The Titans scored all their runs in the first two innings getting a run in the first and two in the second before Knapp shut them down the rest of the way.

NORTH PENN-MANSFIELD 15, COUDERSPORT 5, 5 INNINGS

MANSFIELD, Pa. – Up 5-2 in the fifth inning, the wheels fell off for Coudersport in a 15-5, five-inning road loss to North Penn-Mansfield in the season opener for both teams.
