Jan. 28, 2023 Luton’s Plumbing, Heating, AC Wrestling: Cranberry, McDowell Claim Two Individual Titles Each at Fred Bell

GROVE CITY, Pa. – McDowell, and Cranberry both claimed a pair of individual champions and both teams finished in the top five at the 41-team Fred Bell Tournament.

Cranberry’s Dalton Wenner (107) and Brayden McFetridge (215) claimed titles, as did McDowell’s Logan Sallot (114) and Artis Simmons (152).

McDowell finished third in the team standings with 160.5 points, while Cranberry was fourth with 159. Trinity was first with 176.5 points. Also finishing in the top 10 in the team standings were St. Marys (8th, 129), General McLane (9th, 125.5), and Titusville (10th, 114).

Wenner’s victory in the finals came via a 13-3 major decision over Northwestern’s Sierra Chiesa, while McFetridge earned a thrilling 8-5 decision in sudden victory over McDowell’s Troy Petterson.

                              

For McDowell, Sallot got a tech fall over St. Marys’ Aiden Beimel in the 114-pound final, 18-3 in 5:02, while Simmons was a 7-5 winner by decision over North East’s Steffan Lynch.

Also advancing to the finals was Grove City’s Hunter Hohman at 160 pounds. Hohman lost a 5-1 decision to Laurel’s Grant McKay in the finals.

Nabbing third-place finishes were Cochranton’s Kyle Lantz (107), Franklin’s Cael Dailey (114), Cranberry’s Elijah Brosius (121), Sharpsville’s Dominic Ferraro (127), Cambridge Springs’ Gunner Gage (145), Conneaut’s Collin Hearn (160), St. Marys’ Waylon Wehler (172) and General McLane’s Wilson Spires (285).
