Jan. 28, 2022 D10 Hoops: Union City Boys Outlast Youngsville; Northwestern Wins in Overtime; Saegertown Gets Big Region Victory

YOUNGSVILLE, Pa. – Matt Bennett scored 29 points as Union City earned a hard-fought 62-57 win over Youngsville.

The game had the same results but was much different from the first game the two teams played, a 31-point Union City win.

Union City led by 10 at halftime, but Youngsville went on a 20-9 run in the third quarter, capped by a Nathan Curry three just before the quarter buzzer that gave Youngsville a 48-47 lead.

Union City got it done in the fourth quarter, particularly from the free-throw line where they finished 21-of-25 as a team.

Bennett scored eight points in the fourth quarter and Wyatt Post five. Post finished with 11 points, as did Bryce Drayer, with all of his points coming in the first half.

                                      

Bennett earned Allegheny Grille of Foxburg Player of the Game honors and talked about the win afterward:

Keegan Messel had a big second-half for Youngsville, scoring 12 of his 15 points over the final 16 minutes.

Blake Myers finished with 11 points for Youngsville and Koby Hendrickson scored all 12 of his points in the first half for the Eagles.

                          

NORTHWESTERN 51, GIRARD 48, overtime

ALBION, Pa. – Cam Perkins scored 17 points, including the critical final two in Northwestern’s 51-48 overtime win over Girard.

Up by one late in overtime, the Wildcats got a steal and Perkins converted it into a layup as time expired in the extra session to seal the win.

Eric Steinle had 15 points for Northwestern.

Dylan McDonald had 13 points and JJ Lehman 11 for Girard.

WARREN 67, TITUSVILLE 38

WARREN, Pa. – Parks Ordiway drained six threes on his way to a 26-point effort in Warren’s 67-38 Region 5 win over Titusville.

Ordiway scored 19 of his points in the first half as the Dragons built a 36-21 halftime lead.

Ordiway was one of three Dragons in double figures, as J.T. Blum and Bryce Blair tallied 11 points each and Owen Becker nine.

Isaiah Colon had 11 points to pace Titusville.

                                   

SAEGERTOWN 57, CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS 51

CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS, Pa. – Henry Shaffer scored 19 points as Saegertown handed Cambridge Springs its first Region 2 loss of the season, 57-51.

The Panthers outscored the Blue Devils by seven in the second half, as Isaac Johnson scored 10 points and Jaden Wilkins and Brady Greco nine each.

Nathan Held led three Cambridge Springs players in double figures with 15 points, while Parker Schmidt added 12 and Ethan Counasse 10.

FRANKLIN 78, GREENVILLE 26

GREENVILLE, Pa. – Damon Curry scored 24 points as Franklin drained 12 threes on its way to a 78-26 Region 4 win over Greenville.

Curry hit four shots from deep as the Knights scored 46 points in the first half, staying unbeaten in region play in the process.

Luke Guth also made four shots from distance and finished with 16 points, while Easton Fulmer tallied 15.

Nate Styuvesant, Jalen Ritzert, and Noah Philson had six points each for Greenville.

COCHRANTON 60, MAPLEWOOD 32

COCHRANTON, Pa. – Jaiben Walker scored 17 points as Cochranton powered past Maplewood in Region 2 action, 60-32.

The Cardinals went on a 20-8 run in the second quarter to help take control.

Chae Miller added 11 points, Landon Homa nine, and Wyatt Barzak eight for the Cardinals.

Luke Sleeman paced Maplewood with 13 points.

EISENHOWER 57, IROQUOIS 29

                                  

RUSSELL, Pa. – Eisenhower led 25-4 after the first quarter and never looked back in a 57-29 win over Iroquois.

Wyatt Lookenhouse was on fire early, scoring 12 points in the opening quarter and finishing with 21.

Curt Darling was also in double figures for Eisenhower with 13 points as the Knights led 42-9 at halftime. Kyler Black and Kris Bunk tallied six points each for Eisenhower.

Corrion Combest and Ben Burkhardt had nine points each for Iroquois.

GROVE CITY 66, WILMINGTON 24

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – Dylan Stull scored 15 points as 10 different Grove City players scored in a 66-24 win over Wilmington.

The Eagles scored 42 points in the first half and limited the Greyhounds to just four points in the second half.

Landon Haggart scored nine points, Brett Loughry eight, and Kamden Martin seven for Grove City.

Tuff McConahy scored 12 points to pace Wilmington.

CATHEDRAL PREP 55, MEADVILLE 34

ERIE, Pa. – Cathedral Prep outscored Meadville 23-7 in the fourth quarter on its way to a 55-34 win over Meadville in Region 6 action.

A total of 10 different Ramblers made their way into the scoring column, led by Tavion Spencer and Jake Sambuchino, who had 12 apiece.

Khalon Simmons led Meadville with 14 points.

FAIRVIEW 69, FORT LEBOEUF 23

FAIRVIEW, Pa. – Four Fairview players scored in double figures and a total of 10 made their way into the scoring column in a 69-23 Region 5 win over Fort LeBoeuf.

James Sitter, Tyler Shultz, John Seyboldt, and Zach Franos tallied 10 points apiece and Logan Frazao tallied nine.

The Tigers led 38-10 at halftime.

Ronan Dorler had eight points for LeBoeuf.

OIL CITY 61, CONNEAUT (Pa.) 35

LINESVILLE, Pa. – Cam VanWormer tallied 16 points as Oil City earned a 61-35 win over Conneaut in Region 5 action.

Ethen Knox tallied 13 points for the Oilers, who had a 24-point third quarter to pull away.

Shakir Jordan and Connor Perrye had seven points each for Conneaut.

HARBOR CREEK 46, CORRY 30

CORRY, Pa. – Gavin Ennis had 23 points as Harbor Creek upended Corry in Region 5 action, 46-30.

The Huskies outscored the Beavers 22-9 in the second half, as Jaden Rocco chipped in with nine points.

Nick Brundage had nine points to pace Corry.

KENNEDY CATHOLIC 71, LAKEVIEW 40

HERMITAGE, Pa. – Kennedy Catholic put up 42 points in the first half on its way to a 71-40 win over Lakeview.

Gio Magestro scored 19 points and Malik Lampkins-Rudolph 18 for Kennedy.

Cam Pence led Lakeview with 11 points.

SENECA 72, ERIE FIRST CHRISTIAN 59

ERIE, Pa. – Logan Kibbe scored 22 points as Seneca earned a 72-59 win over Erie First Christian.

The Bobcats put up 47 points in the second half on their way to the win.

Lucas Rupp had 17 points and Bobby Yost 10 for the Bobcats.

Evan Montefiori had 20 points and Jesse Jong 11 for the Eagles.

JAMESTOWN 69, MERCER 51

JAMESTOWN, Pa. – Jamestown outscored Mercer 30-12 in the fourth quarter in a 69-51 Region 1 win.

Peyton McElhinny and Cam Keyser combined for 53 points, with McElhinny tallying 27 and Keyser 26.

Woody Nickel led Mercer with 18 points and Logan Turton added 11.

HICKORY 51, SHARPSVILLE 38

HERMITAGE, P. – Joey Fazzone scored 15 points and Tyson Djakovich 14 as Hickory notched a 51-38 victory over Sharpsville.

James Thomas led Sharpsville with 15 points.

WEST MIDDLESEX 77, COMMODORE PERRY 45

HADLEY, Pa. – Richie Preston had a monster game with 35 points as West Middlesex raced to a 77-45 win over Commodore Perry.

The Big Reds scored 27 points in the second quarter en route to the win.

Tanner Shick added 15 points for the Big Reds.

Kyle Stringert poured in 22 points for Commodore Perry.

GIRLS

SENECA 49, YOUNGSVILLE 24

WATTSBURG, Pa. – Lauren Konkol scored 12 points as Seneca earned a 49-24 Region 2 win over Youngsville.

Nine different players scored for Seneca, including eight points each from Khyli Peterson and Julia Patterson.

Mia Rafalski had 12 points and Kenzie Olewine 10 for Youngsville.
