Hawley’s Sac Fly the Difference as Fairview Tops Erie; Mercyhurst Prep Wins Twice at Pullman Park

ERIE, Pa. – Austin Hawley’s sac fly proved to be the difference as Fairview picked up a 2-1 win over Erie at Mercyhurst University.

With the score tied at 1-1 after four innings, Adam Milam singled to lead off the fifth. Milam stole second and advanced to third on an error. One out later, Hawley hit a sac fly to right to put the Tigers up for good.

Fairview scored the first run of the game in the second. Ed Dolansky was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and moved to second on Caleb Szklenski’s sac bunt. An error loaded the bases and, one out later, Luke Rzodkiewicz reached on an error that allowed Dolansky to score to put the Tigers ahead, 1-0.

The Royals answered in the bottom of the inning. Eli Nicklas walked and Chase Benedict reached on an error to put runners at first and second. Two outs later, Collin Nuber singled to center. Benedict was eventually tagged out, but not before Nicklas crossed the plate to tie it at 1-1.

Nuber finished with two hits and an RBI.

                  

RJ Hawkins took the loss allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits in 4 ⅔ innings. He didn’t issue a walk and struck out six. Nicklas pitched 2 ⅓ scoreless innings. He gave up two hits and struck out three.

Aari Fox had two hits, including a double, for the Tigers.

Patrick Stafford picked up the win throwing 1 ⅔ scoreless innings. He gave up a hit and struck out one. Tyler Benford got the start and allowed one unearned run on one hit with a walk and five strikeouts in 3 ⅓ innings. Fox and Dolansky each pitched one scoreless inning. Fox allowed a hit and struck out two, while Dolansky struck out the side.

MERCYHURST PREP 4, OUR LADY OF THE SACRED HEART 3

BUTLER, Pa. – Hunter Krahe’s 2-run single gave Mercyhurst Prep the lead for good as the Lakers topped Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in their first game of the Serra Catholic Tournament at Butler’s Pullman Park.

                          

The Lakers entered the fifth inning trailing 2-1. Ethan Ishimaru drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game, and then Krahe poked a single up the middle that brought in a pair to make it 4-2.

OLSH cut the lead to one, 4-3, in the bottom of the inning, but Bryce Schueth settled in and allowed just one more hit over the next 2 ⅓ innings to pick up the save.

Krahe had two hits and two RBI, Ishimaru had a hit, an RBI, and walked twice.

Noah Trojanowski got the win giving up three earned runs on three hits with three walks and three strikeouts in four innings. Schueth pitched three scoreless innings, giving up just two hits while walking one and striking out six in his three innings.

MERCYHURST PREP 14, SERRA CATHOLIC 1, 5 INNINGS

               

BUTLER, Pa. – Mercyhurst Prep scored nine runs in the first and four more in the third on its way to a 14-1, 5-inning win over Serra Catholic in their second game of the Serra Catholic Tournament at Butler’s Pullman Park.

Alex Manendo had three hits with two RBI and four runs scored. Zack Kruszewski and Brady Coleman each had two hits. Kruszewski had two RBI and three runs scored, and Coleman scored twice. Rocco Almonte had three RBI and Josh Majczyk scored twice and drove in a pair.

Hunter Krahe got the win allowing one earned run on two hits with two walks and nine strikeouts in four innings. Bryce Schueth threw a scoreless inning walking one and striking out two.
