Greco Leads Saegertown to Win; Karastury Records 1,000th Assist in Conneaut Win (Sept. 19 VB recaps)

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – Lindsey Greco had 25 set assists to help Saegertown to a 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-13) road win over Wilmington.

Greco spread the wealth around with Maggie Triola recording eight kills, Brywn McLaughlin seven kills, and Alyssa Arblaser six kills.

Triola also had five digs and 10 aces with Rylie Braymer adding four digs, while McLaughlin had five blocks.

Logan Kollar had 16 digs for Wilmington with Charlie Black adding 14 digs amd Macy Gardner and Lettie Mahle seven blocks each.

Makenna Blakc had four kills for the Greyhounds, and Jenna Whiting chipped in five digs and 10 set assists.

            

NORTH EAST 3, MERCYHURST PREP 0

NORTH EAST, Pa. – A strong net-front game from Cadence Jones helped North East sweep visiting Mercyhurst Prep, 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-23).

Jones had 15 kills and five blocks.

Kayla Forsythe added eight kills for the Grape Pickers, while Grac Sanfilippo ran the offense with 26 set assists.

Briell King had a team-best 10 digs while Alex Forsythe and Ava Tupepr each added eight digs.

                          

CONNEAUT 3, MCDOWELL 2

LINESVILLE, Pa. – For the second consecutive match, Conneaut found itself down 2-1 and for the second consecutive match the Eagles rallied for a 3-2 win.

This time it was a comeback victory (15-25, 25-21, 25-27, 25-13, 15-11) over visiting McDowell.

Payten Karastury was the story for Conneaut recoding 48 set assists while adding five aces. That included her 1,000th career set assist in the second set.

Her sister, Paris Karastury, led the Eagles defense with 39 digs, while Lainie Harrington was the hero on offense with 20 kills.

Courtney Perrye and Emily Veannare each added 10 kills with Morgan Poff contributing 11 digs and Carly Perrye four aces.

Sophie Nestor led McDowell with 11 kills and six digs with Ana Fetzner adding nine kills and five digs and Ari Bico seven kills and nine digs.

Also for the Trojans, Gabby Deluca had five kills, Rosa Garopey five blocks, Chase Rech 26 digs, and Tayler Rech 14 digs.

Halle Guentner ran the offense for McDowell with 35 set assists while contributing 14 digs.

                        

BROCKWAY 3, JOHNSONBURG 2

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Lauren Rendos had 23 kills as Brockway rallied past visiting Johnsonburg, 3-2 (25-27, 25-21, 12-25, 25-19, 15-12).

Rendos also added six digs and two aces.

Sophia Schmader chipped in six kills and 12 digs while Bella Patton added four kills, three blocks, an ace, and a dig.

Kalina Powell paced the defense for the Lady Rovers with 26 digs while adding four set assists and two aces, and Meeca Smith ran the offense with 30 set assists while also adding 13 digs and two aces.

         

Marlee Cherry led Johnsonburg with 16 kills and four blocks with Kiera Marciniak adding 10 kills and five blocks and Natalie Dunworth 11 kills, 12 digs, and two aces.

Zoey Grunthaner also had 10 digs and five aces for the Ramettes with Cadence Brechtel running the offense with 32 set assists while chipping in two aces and two blocks,

Maria Casilio paced the Johnsonburg defense with 21 digs.

FORT LEBOEUF 3, FAIRVIEW 2

FAIRVIEW, Pa. – Behind an all-around strong match from Katelynn Olmstead, Fort LeBoeuf rallied past Fairview, 3-2 (25-17, 24-26, 21-25. 25-8, 15-9).

Olmstead had 16 kills, 17 digs, four aces, and two blocks to lead the Bison comeback.

Kylie Peters added six kills and five blocks in the win while Ryan Shields had five kills, three aces, and a block.

Bella Johnson chipped in 14 digs in the victory, while Tessa Bellas had 21 set assists and five aces and Mackenzie Galdson added 14 set assists, three digs, and two aces.

Maddie Weber had seven kills and seven blocks for Fairview with Addyson Greene running the offense with 23 set assists and completing a double-double with 11 digs.

REDBANK VALLEY 3, CRANBERRY 2

SENECA, Pa. – Mylee Harmon had 17 kills and 15 digs as Redbank Valley outlasted homestanding Cranberry, 3-2 (20-25, 25-15, 25-22, 28-30, 15-12).

Taylor Ripple added 15 kills and 15 digs for the Lady Bulldogs while Izzy Bond had 11 kills and 13 digs and Kira Bonanno had four kills and 12 digs.

Elaina Carrico ran the offense with 43 set assists.

Ayanna Ferringer had a monster night for Cranberry in a losing effort with 28 kills, 15 digs, and five blocks.

Avery Coe added five kills and 13 digs for the Berries who also got four kills from Lexi Reisinger and seven digs from Reyna Watson.

Allie Rembold ran the offense for Cranberry with 18 set assists and also added six digs.

FRANKLIN 3, MERCER 2

MERCER, Pa. – Trailing by two sets, Franklin rallied to pick up a 3-2 (20-25, 20-25, 25-17, 25-15, 15-8) road win over Mercer.

Katie Boal led the Knights with 12 kills with Jennifer Blum and Abby Boland each adding nine kills. Blum also had 16 digs.

Estella Adams ran the offense for Franklin with 38 set assists.

HARBOR CREEK 3, GIRARD 0

GIRARD, Pa. – Hannah Smith had 13 kills to lead visiting Harbor Creek to a 3-0 (25-11, 25-12, 25-7) win over Girard.

Liz Gunter added six kills for the Huskies, while Talon King ran the offense with 22 set assists.

Laurel Counasse had five digs and five set assists for Girard.

KEYSTONE 3, VENANGO CATHOLIC 0

OIL CITY, Pa. – Gwyn Manno served 12 aces to lead Keystone to a sweep, 3-0 (25-6, 25-8, 25-4), at Venango Catholic.

Katherine Burrows had a team-best four kills for the Lady Panthers while also serving eight aces, while Emilee Dixon chipped in six set assists.

COCHRANTON 3, IROQUOIS 0

COCHRANTON, Pa. – Dani Hoffman and Brooklyn Neelder combined for 15 kills to lead Cochranton to a 3-0 (25-5, 25-23, 25-13) home win over Iroquois.

Hoffman led the Cardinals with eight kills with Needler adding seven.

Claire McCartney chipped in five kills for Cochranton, while Macie Williams had six digs.

Maggie Jackson ran the offense for the Cardinals with 20 set assists.

MAPLEWOOD 3, CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS 0

GUYS MILLS, Pa. – Elizabeth Hunter had 11 kills to help Maplewood to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-8, 25-16) win over visiting Cambridge Springs.

Madison O’Hara and Savannah O’Hara combined to add 10 more kills with Madison recording six to go with seven digs and Savannah four to go with six aces.

Maggie Means ran the offense for the defending PIAA Class 1A champion Tigers with 22 set assists while also adding five digs.

SENECA 3, NORTHWESTERN 0

ALBION, Pa. – Seneca took home a 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-15) road win over Northwestern behind five kills from Emily Stafford.

Morgan Wilhelm had six blocks for the Bobcats while Ava Guzowski had nine set assists.

Izzy Wisniewski led the Seneca defense with seven digs and Rylee Christie added six digs.

Nevaeh Kelley and Courtney Eddy both had eight digs for Northwestern.

CLARION 3, MONITEAU 0

WEST SUNBURY, Pa. – Taylor Alston had 10 kills and Alicyn Burford added seven kills as Clarion ended a two-game slide despite being without leading hitter Hadlee Campbell thanks to a 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-16) win at Moniteau.

Alston added three digs and two blocks, while Burford also had two blocks.

Rhiannon Copenhaver ran the offense with 16 set assists with help from Adi Campbell, who had 10 set assists.

Natalie Durish served three aces for the Lady Cats and also had nine digs, while Anna O’Toole had five digs.

Davina Pry had five kills and three blocks for Moniteau with Marissa Pry adding three kills and four blocks and Allie Pry eight digs and a kill.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 3, BROOKVILLE 0

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – Samantha Griebel had 16 kills, five digs, and two aces to lift Punxsutawney to a 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-20) win over visiting Brookville.

Brynn Hergert led the defense for the Lady Chucks with 18 digs, while Ciara Toven added eight kills and four aces.

EISENHOWER 3, TIDIOUTE 0

RUSSELL, Pa. – After cruising to a first-set win, Eisenhower had to work harder to secure the final two sets on its way to a 3-0 (25-5, 25-20, 25-21) sweep over Tidioute Community Charter School.

The Knights raced out to a 14-2 lead in the first set and never looked back on their way to a 20-point victory.

The Bulldogs weren’t going to make the rest of the match so easy.

TCCS scored the first four points of the second set and led by as much as six at points throughout the set.

Eisenhower came back to tie multiple times but didn’t take its first lead until the Knights went ahead 20-19 after a Caroline Smyth ace. Smyth finished with a pair of aces and four kills to earn Allegheny Grille of Foxburg Player of the Match honors.

“I think we went in and saw how, I don’t want to say easy, but saw what we could do and just let up a little bit,” Smyth said in her Cole Orthodontic Associates postgame interview. “I’m really thankful that we’re such a good team, and we do work together really well, and we kept our energy up.”

Eisenhower went on to take the set, 25-20.

The third set was a back-and-forth affair with neither team able to take full control of the set. Eisenhower pulled away late for a 25-21 win and the 3-0 sweep.

Marissa Gourley had five blocks.

Alicia Sabella had 10 digs for the Bulldogs. Brooksten Fors had seven digs, three kills, and three aces, Katelyn Hart had four digs and three kills, and Marlee Nuttall had four digs, two kills, and a block.

Zaynah Gardner ran the offense with eight assists to go along with two aces, two digs, and a kill.

CORRY 3, UNION CITY 0

CORRY, Pa. – Grace Allen had eight kills, two digs, and a block to help Corry to a 3-0 (25-9, 25-14, 25-16) home win over Union City.

Makenna Moore added four kills, 11 digs, and five aces for the Beavers who also got three kills apiece from Aubrey Chase and Emmalee Carr.

Allison Sawyer added seven aces and Halle Albers eight digs and three kills in the victory.

Payton McCray ran the Corry offense with 23 set assists and added eight digs and two kills.

Cathryn Reynolds had three kills, seven digs, and two aces for Union City while Alyssa Tingley had nine aces and Lilly Vincent 10 digs.

KARNS CITY 3, UNION 0

RIMERSBURG, Pa. – Naomi Venesky had six kills to lead Karns City to a 3-0 (25-12, 25-13, 25-19) win at Union.

Ava Fox added five kills, four aces, and eight digs for the Lady Gremlins while Kendall Ritzert had two kills, five aces, three digs, and 12 set assists.

Gracie Gallagher and Cam Cobbett each had four kills for Union with Riley Kriebel adding two aces.

WARREN 3, GROVE CITY 1

GROVE CITY, Pa. – Warren overcame a slow start to pick up a 3-1 (24-26, 25-21, 25-19, 25-19) road win over Grove City.

Maddy Jones and Alexia Bowers each had 11 kills for the Dragons with Jones also adding five aces.

Kylie Fehlman chipped in eight kills and two blocks in the victory while Madelyn Nosel had 10 kills.

Lindsay Madigan ran the offense for Warren with 39 set assists, while Summer Lucks paced the defense with 25 digs.

Grove City’s offense was a balanced approach with Addi Daniels and Abby Berry each recording six kills and Kylie Mahaffey and Makayla Northcott each coming away with five kills.

Berry also had six digs, five blocks, and 14 set assists while Northcott added five digs.

Reagan Fischer also had five blocks and Brynna Miller eight digs for the Eagles, and Jaya Persomger contributed 11 set assists and seven digs.

SHARON 3, ROCKY GROVE 0

SHARON, Pa. – Senior Libero Kylie Weirick had eight aces and six digs while also obtaining her 500th career set assist to help Sharon sweep visiting Rocky Grove, 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-23).

Tay Chester had eight kills and eight digs for the Tigers with Ondrea Young adding five kills and six blocks and Cam Krecek and Claire Bodien five digs apiece.

Emmalie Yobe ran the offense for Sharon with 13 set assists while adding six digs.

Olivia Faust led Rocky Grove with five kills and five aces while Abby Cable chipped in three kills and two blocks and Kaidlynn Burger added three digs and two aces.

Katie Beggs ran the offense for the Orioles with nine set assists and also served an ace.

DUBOIS 3, BRADFORD 1

BRADFORD, Pa. – DuBois shook off a slow start to top homestanding Bradford, 3-1 (21-25, 25-22, 25-13, 25-15) behind 14 kills and seven digs from Ava Baronick and 12 kills, 10 digs, and six aces from Morgan Pasternak.

Grace Prosper added three digs for the Lady Beavers while Haley Reed ran the offense for 34 set assists.

SHEFFIELD 3, RIDGWAY 0

SHEFFIELD, Pa. – Kadence Steffan had 25 set assists and seven digs to help Sheffield to a 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-8) win over visiting Ridgway.

Kassidy Orinko led the Lady Wolverines on offense with 13 kills while adding three blocks while Emily Foster chipped in five kills.

HERMITAGE, Pa. – Hickory dropped the first set but then won three straight to beat visiting General McLane, 3-1 (16-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-22).

Lily Martin and Zamyra Smith each had five kills for the Hornets with Martin adding three blocks, six digs, and an ace and Smith chipping in four digs and two aces.

Arianna DeBlasio led the Hickory defense with 15 digs while Bella Multari had 12 digs and seven set assists. Mia Muslin contributed six set assists, five digs, an ace, and a kill in the win.

Cassidy Swain had nine kills and three blocks for GM, while Ella Sturgess added six kills and Anna Topsel five kills and two aces.

Eba Kyanvash had six digs and Ella Beachly five digs and two aces for the Lancers, while Morgan Frick had eight set assists and two aces and Pacey Moran six set assists.

COMMODORE PERRY 3 JAMESTOWN 1

HADLEY, Pa. – Commodore Perry picked up a 3-1 (21-25, 26-28, 27-25, 25-13) home win over Jamestown.

Panther stats weren’t available but Hannah Hart had eight kills and 15 digs for Jamestown with Alayna Cadman adding six kills and four digs and Sophia Hart five kills and 26 digs.

Maddy Enerline also had seven kills and 16 digs in the loss while Emily Enterline ran the offense for the Muskies with 24 set assists while adding 11 digs.

CLARION-LIMESTONE 3, NORTH CLARION 1

STRATTANVILLE, Pa. – Alyssa Wiant had 11 kills and Jenna Dunn added 10 kills and 12 digs to help Clarion-Limestone to a 3-1 (25-17, 22-25, 25-16, 25-22) victory over visiting North Clarion.

Hannah Beggs also had an all-around solid game for the Lady Lions with eight kills, 10 digs, and four aces, and Kaylee Smith ran the offense with 32 set assists while adding four aces.

BELLEFONTE 3, CLEARFIELD 1

BELLEFONTE, Pa. – Despite eight kills from Addy Ruiz and five kills from Natalie Rowles, Clearfield dropped a 3-1 (23-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-17) road decision to Bellefonte.

Hannah Glunt ran the offense for the Lady Bison with 19 set assists.

SLIPPERY RCOK 3, OIL CITY 0

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock took home a 3-0 (25-9, 25-17, 25-13) win over visiting Oil City.

Slippery Rock stats weren’t available but Chayse Skinner had 15 set assists for Oil City.

Nicki Petro added five kills for the Oilers while Adrianna Cochran had four kills. Nyssa Hanlson served three aces, had four digs, and added a block with Molly Mietus contributing two blocks and an ace.

MEADVILLE 3, CATHEDRAL PREP 0

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Emma Parks continued her strong play with 17 kills to help Meadville sweep past visiting Cathedral Prep, 3-0 (25-9, 25-17, 25-13).

Sydney Holt added nine kills and 10 digs for the Bulldogs while Ellie Kellick had six kills.

Kendall Mealy paced the Meadville defense with 13 digs with Elliott Schleicher running the offense with 31 set assists.

WEST MIDDLESEX 3, FARRELL 0

WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. – Catlin Stephens had another strong all-around match with eight kills, 10 set assists, and six digs to lead West Middlesex to a 3-0 (25-9, 25-14, 25-16) home win over Farrell.

Emma Mild added seven kills for the big Red who also got five kills, seven digs, and three aces from Avery Hanahan and seven digs from Mercedes McNutt.

Abby Stinedurf helped run the offense with eight set assists while also chipping in two aces.

SHARPSVILLE 3, REYNOLDS 2

GREENVILLE, Pa. – Visiting Sharpsville dropped the first two sets against Reynold before rallying for a 3-2 (22-25, 24-26, 25-23, 25-22, 15-4) win.

Mia Sarchet led the way for the Blue Devils with 20 kills while Emma Brest added 15 kills and 36 digs.

Lillian Morrison also had 27 digs while Mia Labbiento was strong at the net with six blocks.

Ryleigh Fry ran the offense for Sharpsville with 48 set assists.

Ava Murcko had eight kills and a block for Reynolds, while Rylee Gearhart also had eight kills and 16 digs.

Addie Floch chipped in five digs, four kills, an ace, and a block for the Raiders with Kylie McAdoo recording 35 digs and two aces and Annie Loposky 29 digs, six kills, and 22 set assists.
