Farr, Warren Outlast St. Marys; Clarion Stages Rally to Beat C-L in OT; Redbank Valley Stays Unbeaten

WARREN, Pa. – Alyssa Farr made five 3’s and finished with 15 points as Warren beat St. Marys, 51-43.

Leading 22-18 at halftime, Warren (4-2) went on a 13-0 run to open the second half to take a 35-18 lead.

That was followed by a 19-4 run by St. Marys (3-1) to get within two, 39-37.

                                      

Warren never relinquished the lead, however, as back-to-back buckets by Alana Stuart early in the fourth quarter extended the lead back to six.

Farr was named Allegheny Grille of Foxburg Player of the Game.

Sammie Ruhlman was 5-of-6 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter and finished with 14 points for Warren, while Stuart added eight and Meea Irwin six.

                          

Jayssa Snelick had a game-high 20 points for St. Marys.

CLARION 42, CLARION-LIMESTONE 31, OVERTIME

STRATTANVILLE, Pa. – Using a game-ending 26-7 run including a 12-1 spurt in overtime, visiting Clarion topped rival Clarion-Limestone, 42-31, in a non-conference game.

The Lady Cats (3-4) trailed by seven, 25-17, late in the third quarter before scoring 14 of the next 18 points to take a 31-29 lead on a Taylor Alston steal and coast-to-coast layup with 1:44 to play in regulation.

C-L (0-7) was able to tie the game at 31 with 1:22 to go in the fourth quarter on a layup by No. 40, and the game went to overtime at that score.

Clarion, though, dominated the extra session, particularly from the free-throw line, to avoid the upset.

The Lady Cats hit eight of their first nine free throws in overtime (they finished OT 8 of 12), while C-L was just 1-for-6 from the line in the extra session.

Clarion took the lead for good, 33-31, early in the overtime on a basket by Erica Meals, and then Taylor Alston and Sophie Babington combined to hit 7 of 8 free throws between the 2:28 mark and the 1:09 mark to push the lead to eight, 40-32.

Alston had a game-high 19 points for Clarion with Gia Babington adding seven and Sophie Babington and Alivia Diehl five each.

C-L was as balanced as balanced could be on offense with Meals scoring eight points and Jenna Dunn, Samantha Simpson, Hannah Beggs, and Julianna Schwabenbauer each adding six points.

                                   

REDBANK VALLEY 54, JERSEY SHORE 48

NEW BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Building a 16-point fourth-quarter lead, Redbank Valley held off a late Jersey Shore comeback to pick up a 54-48 win in a matchup of two teams that went to the second round of the PIAA playoffs a year ago.

The unbeaten Lady Bulldogs (7-0), the D9 2A champions a year ago, used a 6-0 spurt in the second quarter to take a 29-18 lead before settling for a 31-23 halftime advantage.

The lead grew to 10, 43-33, by the end of the third quarter, and then went to 16 midway through the fourth quarter, 51-35, on a Kira Bonanno layup with 3:50 to play.

It was still a 14-point game, 54-40, following a Mylee Harmon layup with 1:52 to go, but Jersey Shore (5-2), the District 4 Class 4A runner-up who made it to the second round of the state playoffs a year ago before losing to eventual state champion Lansdale Catholic, scored the final eight points to set the final score.

Harmon had another monster game for the Lady Bulldogs scoring a game-high 31 points.

Bonanno added nine tallies and Izzy Bond and Addy Bond each scored seven for Redbank Valley.

Peyton Dincher, who like Harmon is over 1,000 career points as a junior, led Jersey Shore with 14 points with Cailyn Schall and Jocelyn McCracken each adding 10 points.

PORT ALLEGANY 44, SMETHPORT 39

PORT ALLEGANY, Pa. – Port Allegany needed a 10-5 third-quarter advantage to hold off upset-minded Smethport, 44-39.

The visiting Lady Hubbers (2-8, 1-6 NTL) forged a 23-all halftime tie, but Port Allegany got third-quarter 3-pointers from Kayleigha Dowell and Brynn Evens to take a 33-28 lead at the end of the quarter.

Dowell then hit 5 of 6 free throws and scored seven of the 11 Lady Gator (7-2, 6-0) in the quarter.

Going 13 of 18 from the free-throw line, Dowel scored a game-high 21 points while adding five rebounds and five steals.

Ella Moses added eight points and six steals with Jenna Renner chipping in seven points.

Elizabeth Hungiville and Jaidyn Goodman each had double-doubles for Smethport.

                                  

Hungiville scored 15 points, grabbed 13 rebounds, blocked two shots, had three steals, and handed out an assist, while Goodman added 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Payton Neff also had a strong game with six points, 10 rebounds, and six assists for the Lady Hubbers.

CORRY 52, CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS 39

CORRY, Pa. – Halle Albers led a balanced Corry effort with 13 points in a 52-39 win over Cambridge Springs.

Grace Allen scored 10 of her 12 points in the first half for Corry (4-3) as it built a 28-19 advantage.

Rylee Nickerson added 11 points for the Beavers.

Sydney Zilhaver had 12 points and Payton Leandro had 10 for Cambridge Springs (3-5).

DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 51, BROOKVILLE 38

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Down four early in the third quarter, DuBois Central Catholic went on a quarter-ending 25-6 run on its way to a 51-38 win over Brookville in the championship game of the Brookville Holiday Tournament.

The Lady Cardinals (7-1), who trailed 20-19 at halftime, were down 23-19 early in the third quarter after an Eden Wonderling 3-pointer.

But following a time-out, DCC scored the next eight points and dominated the quarter thanks in part to three 3-pointers from Lexi Berta and eight points from Kayley Risser.

Risser finished with a game-high 15 points while Berta added 12 points. Hope Jacob chipped in eight points and 12 rebounds, and Marina Hanes had nine tallies.

Wonderling tied Risser for game-high honors with 15 points while adding nine rebounds for Brookville, and Samantha Whitling chipped in 11 points.

DUBOIS 43, BROCKWAY 32

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Avery Fontaine and Lynx Lander combined to score 30 points and grab 16 rebounds to lift DuBois to its first win of the season, 43-32, over Brockway in the consolation game of the DuBois Holiday Tournament.

Fontaine led the Lady Beavers (1-9) with 16 points and nine rebounds, while Lander added 14 points and seven boards.

Stasija Daniluk chipped in four points and eight boards in the win.

Sophia Morrison had eight points to lead Brockway (3-6) while Sophia Schmader added seven points and 11 rebounds and Kalina Powell had seven points and nine rebounds.

WILMINGTON 72, LINCOLN 45

ELLWOOD CITY, Pa. – Lia Krarup poured in 26 points as Wilmington powered past Lincoln (Ellwood City),72-45.

Krarup and Alyssa Flick knocked down two 3’s each as the Greyhounds (5-1), winners of five straight, built a 24-8 lead after the first quarter.

Reese Bruckner had 14 points for Wilmington, while Maya Jeckavitch had 13 and Flick 11.

Caitlin Kreteer had 14 points for Lincoln (5-3)..

MONITEAU 59, KEYSTONE 28

WEST SUNBURY, Pa. – Catherine Kelly and Kendall Sankey helped Moniteau to a 59-28 KSAC win over visiting Keystone.

Kelly scored a game-high 15 points to go with five assists, while Sankey had a double-double of 12 points and 13 rebounds while adding six steals.

Cheyenne Curl continued her solid play with eight points, and Sophia Fleeger chipped in seven tallies for the Lady Warriors (8-1, 2-0 KSAC).

Ashlee Albright paced Keystone (3-5, 1-2) with seven points.

CRANBERRY 50, COMMODORE PERRY 20

HADLEY, Pa. – Raegan Antrilli scored 14 points to lead Cranberry to a 50-20 win at Commodore Perry.

Haylie Gregory added 11 points for the Berries (2-5), who had nine different players score.

Allie Rembold also chipped in seven points in the victory.

Marley Meyer led Commodore Perry (0-6) with eight points.

UNION CITY 46, REYNOLDS 18

UNION CITY, Pa. – Brooke VanTassel scored 20 points to power Union city to a 46-18 win over Reynolds.

Union City (2-6) outscored Reynolds (1-6) 13-0 in the first quarter on its way to the win.

Cathryn Reynolds was also in double figures for the Bears with 11 points.

Julie Wade had 10 points for Reynolds.

CHESTATEE (Ga.) 43, MCDOWELL 42

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – McDowell lost its third consecutive close game at the KSA Tournament, 43-42 to Chestatee (Ga.).

Tied at 31 after the third quarter, Chestatee outscored the Trojans (0-6) by a single point in the fourth quarter.

Riley Black had a big game for Chestatee, scoring 24 points, 15 of which came in the first half.

Mikaila Bennett led a balanced McDowell effort with eight points, while Amaiya Nelson and Leah Major had seven each.

GLENDALE 65, CURWENSVILLE 15

FLINTON, Pa. – Madison Peterson exploded for 35 points to lead Glendale to a 65-15 home ICC North win over Curwensville.

Peterson knocked down four 3-pointers, 11 2-pointers, and a free throw.

Sophia Leiden added 14 points for the Vikings (2-7, 1-2 ICC North).

Briah Peoples paced Curwensville (0-6, 0-3), who was playing without Karleigh Freyer (13.8 ppg), with six points.

HOLLIDAYSBURG 64, CLEARFIELD 29

HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa. – Bella Vent scored a game-high 19 points to help Hollidaysburg to a 64-29 LHAC East win over visiting Clearfield.

Clare Padamonsky added 15 points for the unbeaten Golden Tigers (6-0, 4-0 LHAC East).

Sonny Diehl paced Clearfield (4-4, 2-3) with 11 points.
