District 9 Baseball and Softball Playoff Chase Heading into Final Week of the Regular Season

Clearfield won the 2019 District 9 Class 3A Title. The Lady Bison are playing in Class 4A this season

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Listed below are the current playoff standings in District 9 in both baseball and softball heading into the final week of the regular season.

In District 9, only games through Wednesday, May 19, are included in playoff seedings. The District uses a power point formula to determine the seedings. The formula includes two ways for teams to earns points – wins and schedule. Each win is worth five points and schedule points are broken down by the classification of a team’s opponent and are awarded regardless of the outcome. Playing a Class 1A opponent is worth a 1/2 point, playing a Class 2A opponent is worth 1 point, playing a Class 3A opponent is worth 1.5 points, playing a Class 4A opponent is worth 2 points, playing a Class 5A opponent is worth 2.5 points, and playing a Class 6A opponent is worth 3 points.

Once the total number of points is determined, that number is then divided by the number of games a team has played to get to the power point number that seeding is based on (editor’s note: in the seeding story we published Friday, May 14, we inadvertently did not divide the power points by the number of points so the softball seedings may look slightly different than what was reported Friday).

All records, power points, seedings, and upcoming schedules for the week are unofficial and subject to change without notice. The District 9 committee will make all final decisions.

The following lists may also not completely reflect all teams that will or won’t participate in the postseason. The District 9 baseball and softball playoffs are “open” tournaments meaning anyone can elect to play regardless of record. Some schools have a “.500” rule meaning that a team must be .500 or better to participate but this is not a District 9 rule and is sometimes waved even my schools that have one depending on circumstances. In some cases, even teams above .500 have elected to not participate in the postseason for various reasons. Therefore, it is possible that some of the teams listed below may not elect to participate in the postseason, and some teams that aren’t listed below may elect to participate in the postseason.
