Defending 1A Baseball State Champion DCC Drops Opener in Extra Innings; Titusville Edges Corry

DUBOIS, Pa. – Defending PIAA Class 1A champion DuBois Central Catholic began its 2023 season with a 10-7, 8-inning loss to Indiana.

Indiana, a Class 4A team from the WPIAL, scored seven runs in the top of the eighth after the game was tied 3-3 going to extras.

DCC scored four runs in the bottom half of the inning, but Indiana was able to escape further damage to earn the win.

Nick Love belted a two-run home run to get the eighth inning going for Indiana, Kadin Homer hit a sacrifice fly, Hunter Martin had an RBI single, and Landon Kodman had an RBI double.

DuBois Central Catholic scored on an error to bring a run across in the bottom of the eighth and also got an RBI single from Matt Pyne, an RBI single from Carter Hickman, and an RBI double from Brayden Fox before Indiana got out of the inning to get the win.

   

                  

Aiden Snowberger took the loss in relief for DCC, allowing two runs in ⅓ of an inning, striking out one. Carter Kosko tossed 3 ⅔ shutout innings for the Cardinals, allowing just one hit without a walk or a strikeout.

Fox went 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs, while Hickman was 2-for-5 with an RBI.

Gavin Hoover was credited with the win for Indiana, tossing five innings, allowing three runs on four hits, striking out one, and walking one.

Love finished 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs.

TITUSVILLE 3, CORRY 1

                          

TITUSVILLE, Pa. – A 3-run fifth inning lifted Titusville to its second win of the season, 3-1 over visiting Corry.

With the game scoreless in the fifth, Mark Titus delivered an RBI single, followed by a Kasen Neely RBI double and a Kam Mong RBI fielder’s choice.

Drew Wheeling got the win in relief for Titusville, allowing one unearned run in three innings, allowing four hits, striking out six, and walking one. Hunter Thomas went four shutout innings to start the game, allowing just two hits, striking out seven, and walking two.

Titus had two hits.

               

Caleb Daniels had an RBI single in the sixth inning for Corry.

Jon Albers took the loss for Corry, allowing three runs in 4 ⅔ innings on five hits, striking out seven, and walking two. Zack Martin tossed 1 ⅓ shutout innings, striking out two, walking one and not allowing a hit.
