Dec. 10, 2021 D10 Girls’ Hoops: Warren’s Childress Hits 1,000-Point Milestone in Victory Over Jamestown

WARREN, Pa. – Warren’s Riley Childress wasted little time reaching the 1,000-point milestone.

The Lady Dragon senior guard needed 16 points going into Friday’s season-opener against Jamestown and got them all in the first half, going over the threshold on a 3-pointer in the second quarter off an assist from classmate and fellow 1,000-point scorer Emma Ruhlman in Warren’s 75-9 win.

Childress finished with 21 points to lead the Lady Dragons, while Ruhlman finished with 19. A total of nine different Lady Dragons made their way into the scoring column, with Gracie Ruhlman chipping in seven points and Halle Kuzminski and Alyssa Farr six each.

FAIRVIEW 43, GENERAL MCLANE 30

FAIRVIEW, Pa. – Hope Garrity scored 20 points as defending District 10 Class 3A champion Fairview opened its season with a 43-30 win over General McLane in the Harbor Creek Tip-OFf Classic.

Ella Garrity chipped in with 10 points for the Lady Tigers, while Caroline Zentis added eight.

                          

GROVE CITY 45, COCHRANTON 27

GROVE CITY, Pa. – Emma Santom led a balanced effort with 11 points as Grove City earned a 45-27 win over Cochranton.

Delaney Callahan netted 10 points for Grove City, while Selah Severson added eight.

Callahan also had six rebounds and four assists for the winners, while Izzie Gamble pulled down nine rebounds and added three steals, Hanna Reiber five boards and Piper Como four steals.

Jaylin McGill had nine points to pace Cochranton.

SLIPPERY ROCK 44, SHARPSVILLE 30

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Ella McDermott scored 11 points as Slippery Rock earned a 44-30 win over Sharpsville.

Bronwyn McCody and Audrey Kura scored eight points each for Slippery Rock.

Alli Davis led Sharpsville with a game-high 19 points.

WILMINGTON 48, KARNS CITY 40

                                   

KARNS CITY, Pa. – Lia Krarup scored 21 points as Wilmington earned a 48-40 win over Karns City in the opening round of the Karns City Tip-Off Tournament.

Maelee Whiting pulled down 10 rebounds in the win for Wilmington.

Emma Johns scored 13 points to lead Karns City, while Cameryn Booher added 11. Rossi McMillen pulled down 10 boards as well for KC.

ROCKY GROVE 35, CRANBERRY 25

FRANKLIN, Pa. – Abby Williams scored a game-high 15 points to lead Rocky Grove to a 35-25 win over Cranberry.

Rocky Grove built a 16-6 halftime lead en route to the win. Rylee Reed added 12 points for the Orioles.

Ayanna Ferringer scored nine points to lead Cranberry, while Keelie Schneider added five.

MAPLEWOOD 48, KEYSTONE 18

WARREN, Pa. – Bailey Varndell led three Maplewood players in double figures with 18 points as head coach Kyle Krepps picked up his 100th career win in a 48-18 win over Keystone in the opening round of the Warren Tip-Off Tournament.

Varndell connected on five three-pointers as Maplewood broke the game open after leading 14-9 at the end of the first quarter.

Sadie Thomas and Liliane Moorhead chipped in with 10 points apiece for the Lady Tigers.

Natalie Bowser scored 10 points for Keystone.

FRANKLIN, Pa. – Maddy Marczak scored 15 points as Oil City battled past Titusville, 32-18 in the opening round of the Roy Sanner Memorial Tournament.

Emma Stahl added seven points for the Oilers and Ashlee Schreckengost six.

Rylie McGarvie had seven points for Titusville.

UNION CITY 64, COMMODORE PERRY 12

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Jessica Messenger scored 22 points as Union City earned a 64-12 win over Commodore Perry in the opening round of the Meadville Tip-Off Tournament.

Cathryn Reynolds added 14 points for the Lady Bears, while Abby Tingley netted 10.

VILLA MARIA 72, BISHOP KEARNEY (N.Y.) 54

ERIE, Pa. – Jayden McBride scored 22 points as Villa opened the season with a 72-54 win over Bishop Kearney (N.Y.) in the Villa Border Battle.

Villa opened the game on a 12-0 run and never looked back.

Carissa Dunham netted 16 points for the Victors and Addie Biel 14.

FORT LEBOEUF 40, HICKORY 31

WATERFORD, Pa. – Chloe Rossi scored 16 points as Fort LeBoeuf outlasted Hickory, 40-31 in the opening round of the Fort LeBoeuf Tip-Off Tournament.

Emily Samluk chipped in with eight points for the Lady Bison, while Alee Young had six.

McKenzie Gustas led Hickory with 13 points.

GREENVILLE 52, MERCER 44

GROVE CITY, Pa. – Anna Harpst led four Greenville players in double figures with 14 points as the Lady Trojans outlasted Mercer, 52-44.

Grace Cano had 13 points for the winners, while Josie Lewis added 11 and Sarah Mallek 10.

Julia Balaski led Mercer with 17 points

ERIE 53, CHAUTAUQUA LAKE (N.Y) 20

WATERFORD, Pa. – Tori Roberts scored 12 points as Erie opened up with a 53-20 win over Chautauqua Lake.

Arianna Mitchell added nine points for the Lady Royals, while Aloni Simmons and Amaria Mims netted six points apiece.

HARBOR CREEK 49, NORTH EAST 34

HARBORCREEK, Pa. – Brooke Przybylski poured in 26 points as Harbor Creek won the opening game of its tip-off tournament against North East, 49-23.

Samantha Zank added nine points for the Huskies and Rylee Kapsar seven.

Alex Cozzens had 13 points for North East.

SENECA 51, MEADVILLE 19

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Seneca’s Julia Patterson led three players in double figures with 16 points as the Bobcats beat Meadville in the Meadville Tip-Off Tournament, 51-19.

Lauren Konkol had 11 points for Seneca, which led 27-12 at the half, while Khyli Peterson added 10.

Phoebe Templin had nine points for Meadville.
