D9 2A Boys: Third-Quarter Run Helps Coudersport Knock off Curwensville in Opening Round as Streich Scores 32

COUDERSPORT, Pa. – Down two at halftime, eighth-seeded Coudersport outscored ninth-seeded Curwensville 24-8 in the third quarter on its way to an 85-71 win in the opening round of the District 9 Class 2A boys’ playoffs at Coudersport Tuesday night.

The Falcons (13-11) trailed 36-34 at the break but got a combined 18 points from Mason Roessner and Reilly Streich in the third quarter to take control of the game, 58-44, by the end of the frame.

Roessner scored nine points in the quarter including hitting a 3-pointer while Streich went 7 of 8 from the free-throw line and also scored nine points in the frame.

Drew VanWhy and Micah Batson also had a key 3-pointer during the run.

                                      

Coudersport actually started out strong taking a 23-14 lead at the end of the first quarter with Streich scoring 12 points while hitting a pair of 3-pointers.

But Curwensville (11-12) took over the game in the second quarter when Grant Swanson got hot hitting three 3-pointers while scoring 11 points in the quarter to help the Golden Tide outscore the Falcons 22-11 to take the two-point halftime lead.

Streich tied his season- and career-high with 32 points while adding 10 rebounds to lead Coudersport.

Roessner added 22 points, five assists, and four steals, while VanWhy chipped in 14 points.

Dylan Howard also had seven points and seven rebounds in the victory, and Batson handed out five assists to go with five points.

                          

Swanson, who hit six 3-pointers in the contest, paced Curwensville with 20 points while Davis Fleming added 17 and Parker Wood 16.

Coudersport will travel to top-seeded Redbank Valley for a 7 p.m. quarterfinal game on Friday, Feb. 23.
