D-10 Soccer Semifinals: Hickory Edges Mercyhurst Prep in Penalty Kicks

   

HERMITAGE, Pa. – After two overtimes weren’t enough, Paul Morelli made Hickory’s fourth penalty shot in the shootout and Julian Hudson came up with a final stop to send the Hornets past Mercyhurst Prep and into the District 10 Class 2A final, 3-3 (4-3 Hickory on PK’s).

Jarrett Harry had a hat trick for the Lakers, his final goal giving them a 3-2 lead with 8:40 left in regulation, that coming less than two minutes after Paul Morelli tied the game for Hickory.

The Hornets responded, however, tying the game on a Brady Robison goal with 6:17 left.

            

In the shootout, Robison, Michael Orendi and Antonio Giuseppucci scored for Hickory, setting up Morelli’s heroics. Harry, John Kerner and Ashton Mertz scored for the Lakers.

The game was back-and-forth the whole way. Robison scored to give Hickory the lead in the first half, with Harry countering with just over nine minutes left in the half to tie it.

That 1-1 score stood until Harry scored with 12:41 to go, followed by Morelli’s tally.

Class 1A: IROQUOIS 3, WILMINGTON 2, 2-OT

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – A misplayed ball by Wilmington’s keeper in double-overtime sent Iroquois to a 3-2 victory and into the D-10 finals.

                          

A.J. Brine scored both of Iroquois’ regulation goals in a game that was tied 1-1 at halftime.

Alex Hough scored for Wilmington in the first half and Connor McKean in the second.

Class 3A: CATHEDRAL PREP 12, MEADVILLE 0

ERIE, Pa. – Jack Foht had four goals as Prep rolled past Meadville and into the D-10 Class 3A finals.

Sam Louie, Reece Johnson and Owurakwame Anim-Somuah had two goals each for the Ramblers, while Daniel Harrington, Sam Louie, Luke Trocki and Noah Handzel added on each.

Prep led 8-0 at halftime.

The Ramblers will face the winner of Tuesday’s General McLane at Warren match in the championship game.

Class 2A: FAIRVIEW 7, FRANKLIN 0

FAIRVIEW, Pa. – Nathan George, Zach Scott and Eli Yahn scored two goals each as Fairview cruised past Franklin 7-0 in the D-10 Class 2A semifinals.

Aidan Piazza also scored for the Tigers, who led 4-0 at halftime.

                        

Richie DeArment and Luke Irvin shared the clean sheet in net.

Fairview meets Hickory for the Class 2A title.

Class 1A: MERCER 2, SHARPSVILLE 0

MERCER, Pa. – Max Ellis scored a goal in each half to send Mercer past Sharpsville in the Class 2A semis.

Connor Lengyel earned the shutout in net.

         

The Mustangs advance to play Iroquois for the D-10 title.
