WARREN, Pa. – When you win a state championship, there’s a lot of greatness along the way.
That was reflected in the Cathedral Prep Ramblers, with Noah Handzel earning 2023 YDL Sports Network/D9and10Sports District 10 boys’ soccer Player of the Year honors powered by TapNPay+.
The Ramblers swept the major awards, with Sam Tojaga earning Coach of the Year honors and James DiSanza Rookie of the Year.
Handzel put together a truly special season for the Ramblers, scoring 32 goals to go along with 21 assists. He also scored game-winning goals in the state playoffs against both Montour and Hershey.
DiSanza, meanwhile, didn’t have a huge season statistically, but proved to be impossible to keep of the field, according to his coach. That culminated with one of the biggest goals of the season, late in the first half of the PIAA quarterfinals against South Fayette, a goal that proved to be the game-winner.
Tojaga, meanwhile, got the Rambler program over the hump, after four times getting to the state semifinals and losing to the eventual state champions.
In addition to the major award winners, YDL Sports Network first- and second-team All-District 10 teams were also named.
