Brookville Rides Strong Shooting to Win Over West Branch; Cranberry, Girard, Redbank Notch Victories

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Shooting just a tad over 61% from the field, Brookville handed visiting West Branch its first loss of the season, 77-65.

The Raiders (5-5), who entered the game averaging just 48.1 ppg, scored their most points since putting up 77 at Curwensville on Feb. 23, 2021, thanks to a sizzling 30 of 49 shooting from the floor that included eight 3-pointers.

Jack Pete and Kellan Haines both had career highs for Brookville with Pete scoring 27 points and Haines 25. Pete completed a double-double with 10 rebounds with Haines adding six boards.

The Raiders trailed 34-33 at halftime before outscoring West Branch (11-1) 24-18 in the third quarter to take the lead.

Owen Koleno led the Warriors with 22 points with Zach McGonigal scoring 13 points, Joel Evans 12, and Isaac Tiracroda 11.

                                      

CRANBERRY 66, COCHRANTON 60

SENECA, Pa. – A 20-13 run in the third quarter helped lift Cranberry to a 66-60 D9/10 crossover win over Cochranton.

The Berries (7-4) trailed 35-31 at halftime but used their run in the third quarter to take a 51-48 lead.

Ethan Merryman led four Cranberry players in double figures with 19 points. Cole Findlay netted 16 points for the Berries, while Connor Morrow had 13 points (including 7-of-13 from the free throw line) and Landon Baker 11.

Walker Carroll had a big game in the loss for Cochranton (3-6) with 27 points. He has now scored 61 points in his last two games. Brady Rynd netted 24 points for the Cardinals.

                          

GIRARD 55, MERCYHURST PREP 48

GIRARD, Pa. – A 19-9 third-quarter run lited Girard to a 55-48 win over Mercyhurst Prep.

Girard (10-1 overall, 3-0 Region 4) led 22-20 at halftime and 41-29 after three quarters.

Kenny Godoy scored 12 of his 14 points win the second half for Girard, while Geremia Dell’omo led the Yellow Jackets in scoring with 15 points.

Nate Edwards also netted nine points and Ryan Carr eight for Girard.

Maddox Brzuz led Mercyhurst Prep (4-6, 1-2) with 14 points, while Derek Bly added nine.

REDBANK VALLEY 71, JOHNSONBURG 45

NEW BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Scoring 57 points over the final three quarters, Redbank Valley continued to roll with a 71-45 win over visiting Johnsonburg.

The Bulldogs (9-1) led 14-13 at the end of the first quarter but outscored Johnsonburg (7-5) 43-26 over the next two quarters to pull away.

Kieran Fricko led a foursome of Redbank players in double digits with 19 points with Owen Clouse and Breckin Minich each scoring 14 points and Ty Carrier adding 11.

                                   

Johnsonburg, which played without second-leading scorer Luke Zimmerman (9.5 ppg), got nine points apiece from Aidan Demay and Eli Perez, eight tallies from Cade Peterson, and seven from Noah Stauffer. The Rams’ leading scorer, Isaiah Jackson (19.5 ppg) was limited to a season-low six points.

SLIPPERY ROCK 54, FAIRVIEW 45

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Josh Book scored 23 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to help power Slippery Rock to a 54-45 non-region win over Fairview.

The Rockets (8-4) led 40-36 after three quarters and outscored the Tigers (3-8) 15-9 in the fourth quarter to secure the win.

Max Kovacik netted 16 points in the win for Slippery Rock, while Levi Prementine had six points, five assists, and four steals.

Tyler DiVechhio led a pair of Fairview players in double figures with 11 points, while Archie Murphey added 10.

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 51, PUNXSUTAWNEY 38

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – Visiting Elk County Catholic rode a strong first half to a 51-38 win over Punxsutawney in D9 League action to stay unbeaten.

The Crusaders (12-0 overall, 4-0 D9 League) led 28-16 at halftime thanks to 13 points from Jordan Wasko and 10 from Wil Wortman.

Wasko, who hit four first-half 3-pointers and five triples in the game, scored a career-high 27 points for ECC with Wortman adding 15.

Noah Kengersky led Punxsutawney (7-4, 1-3) with 15 points with Evan Presloid adding eight.

KARNS CITY 64, UNION 48

RIMERSBURG, Pa. – Shane Peters had a 21-point, 10-rebound double-double to help Karns City beat homestanding Union, 64-48, in a non-conference game.

Peters, whose 21 points were a career-high, also added two assists.

Taite Beighley added 15 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and three steals for the Gremlins (8-3) with Jacob Callihan chipping in 14 points, nine rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and two steals.

                                  

Hobie Bartoe also had a strong all-around game for Karns City, which outscored Union (8-6) 31-20 in the second half, with eight points, seven assists, four steals, and three rebounds as did Luke Cramer with six points, five rebounds, and three helpers.

Hayden Smith had 19 points and eight rebounds for the Golden Knights with Dawson Camper adding 11 points and eight boards.

CORRY 74, NORTHWESTERN 40

ALBION, Pa. – Rylan Smith led three Corry players in double figures with 16 points in a 74-40 win over Northwestern.

The win was the fifth straight for Corry (10-2), which led 37-17 at halftime on its way to the win.

Markus Lambert netted 14 points for Corry, while Kamdyn Moon had 11 and Karson Chamberlin nine.

Jack Miller had 13 points for Northwestern (0-11).

DUBOIS 58, ST. MARYS 40

ST. MARYS, Pa. – It was a successful road trip in D9 League play for DuBois which came home from St. Marys with a 58-40 win over the Dutch.

Maddox Bennett knocked down four 3-pointers and scored a season-high 25 points for the Beavers (7-4 overall, 1-1 D9 League) with Cam Thompson adding 12 points and Tyson Kennis chipping in eight tallies.

Quin Gavazi scored 10 points for St. Marys (5-6, 0-3) with Dan Schutz adding eight points.

CLARION 79, NORTH CLARION 51

CLARION, Pa. – Scoring 47 first-half points, Clarion cruised past visiting North Clarion, 79-51, in non-conference action.

The Bobcats (9-3) derailed five first-quarter 3-pointers, including two from Daunte Girvan, while scoring 27 first-quarter points to take a 27-18 lead after eight minutes.

Kameron Merrell then hit two of Clarion’s three second-quarter triples to help the Cats to a 47-26 halftime lead.

Led by six 3-pointers from Merrell, Clarion hit 14 triples in the game.

Merrell, who entered the night with just 47 total points on the season, scored a career-high 20 points.

Girvan also had a career-best 11 tallies while Devon Lauer scored 10 points for the Bobcats, who had 12 different players score.

Ethan Carll led a trio of North Clarion (4-8) players in double digits with 19 points with Drake Irwin scoring 14 points and Logan Bish adding 10 tallies.

YOUNGSVILLE 57, FOREST AREA 17

TIONESTA, Pa. – Ethan Beers led a balanced effort with 12 points as Youngsville powered past Forest Area, 57-17.

Carson Chase scored all 10 of his points in the first half as Youngsville (7-5) built a 35-8 halftime lead.

Nathan Lucks and Rylan Benton netted nine points each for the Eagles.

Mitch Bawden led Forest Area (3-10) with six points.

CLARION-LIMESTONE 68, KEYSTONE 43

STRATTANVILLE, Pa. – The Triple J attack of Jase Ferguson, Jack Callen, and Jack Craig combined to score 46 points to lead Clarion-Limestone to a 68-43 win over visiting Keystone.

Ferguson had a game-high 16 points to go with seven assists and seven rebounds.

Callen and Craig both added 15 points with Craig completing a double-double with 12 rebounds. He also had four steals, three blocks, and three assists.

Paul Craig, Jack’s younger brother, also scored 10 points for the Lions (5-7).

Keystone (2-10) got a career-high 20 points from freshman Eli Nellis while Drew Keth added 11 points.

BRADFORD 67, KANE 20

KANE, Pa. – Ten different Bradford players scored in a 67-20 road route of Kane.

Jake Franz led the Owls (6-6) with 13 points, Marcus Terwilliger added 11 points, and Nasir Armstrong and Brendan Warner each added nine tallies.

Derek Worafka had five points to pace Kane (6-6).
