Brookville Girls Stage Big Rally to Stun Keystone; Stephens Explodes for West Middlesex; Mercyhurst Prep Gets OT Win

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Down 19 with just over 13 minutes to play, Brookville went on a 40-13 run and stunned visiting Keystone, 65-58.

The Lady Raiders trailed 43-24 following an Ava Patrick basket with about 5:15 to play in the third quarter.

                                      

But Bently Hughey started Brookville’s run with a basket just north of the five-minute mark, and Kersytn Davie and Samantha Whitling hit back-to-back 3-pointers to get Brookville within 11, 43-32 with four minutes left in the third.

Davie then completed an old-school 3-point play to push the Lady Raider run to 11-0 making it a three-possession game at 43-35.

Mia Traister momentarily stopped the bleeding for Keystone with a bucket to make it 45-35, but four Davie free throws and an old-school 3-pointer from Hughet had Brookville within three, 45-42, with 1:47 left in the third after two Davie charity shots.

Keystone got the lead back to six, 50-44, at the end of the third quarter, but an 8-0 spurt out of the quarter break by Brookville put the Lady Raiders ahead, 52-50, with 6:29 to play.

The final four points of the spurt came off steals with Eden Wonderling going coast-to-coast following a swipe to make it 50-48, and then Whitling picking up a steal and the go-ahead basket.

                          

Emma Gruber forced one last tie for Keystone at 52 with about six minutes to play, but Davie put Brookville ahead for good with a basket at the 5:42 mark.

Hannah Lundrgen then expanded the lead to five with a 3-pointer with just over four minutes to play, and when Whitling hit one of two free throws with 3:31 to go the Lady Raiders were up six, 58-52.

The lead then grew to seven, 61-54, on a Davie basket before eventually getting to eight, 64-56, on a basket by Whitling.

Davie had a career-high 21 points to pace Brookville with Wonderling adding 16, Hughey nine, and Whitling eight.

Ashlee Albright led Keystone, which led 35-22 at halftime but turned the ball over 32 times, with 22 points but was held to just six in the second half. Patrick added 12 points and Gruber had eight.

WEST MIDDLESEX 70, SHARPSVILLE 42

SHARPSVILLE, Pa. – Caitlin Stephens exploded for 42 points to lead West Middlesex to a 70-42 win over Sharpsville.

Stephens spread out her scoring, scoring 11 points in the first quarter, nine in the second, 12 in the third and 10 in the fourth.

Stephens made 15 shots from the floors – all 2’s, while going 12-of-17 from the free throw line.

The Big Reds led 32-17 at halftime en route to the win.

                                   

Brooklyn Ramsey had 16 points for Sharpsville and Lily Palko 14.

MERCYHURST PREP 53, SETON LASALLE 47, overtime

PITTSBURGH – Mercyhurst Prep went on the road and outlasted Seton LaSalle, 53-47 in overtime.

Mari Nixon and Olivia Kulyk had 18 points each for Mercyhurst Prep in the win.

Kulyk came up clutch in overtime, going 7-of-8 from three free throw line to help the Lakers secure the win.

Tiara Curry scored 18 points to lead Seton LaSalle, while Mallory Daly had 14.

CLARION 57, UNION/A-C VALLEY 19

FOXBURG, Pa. – Building an 18-point halftime lead, Clarion rolled past Union/A-C Valley, 57-19, at A-C Valley.

The Lady Cats led 29-11 at the break.

Sophie Babington hit four 3-pointers on her way to a career-high 24 points – her previous high was 21 in a District 9 consolation playoff game against Ridgway last season.

Taylor Alston added 14 points and Natalie Durish chipped in 11 for Clarion.

Brianna Schmidt led Union/A-C Valley with 11 points.

MAPLEWOOD 50, GROVE CITY 47

GUYS MILLS, Pa. – Maplewood went on a 10-2 run in the second quarter, taking a 19-15 halftime lead on its way to a 50-47 over Grove City.

Maggie Means led three Maplewood players in double figures with 17 points. Savannah O’Hara scored all 11 of her points in the second half, while Madison O’Hara had seven of her 10 points in the second half.

                                  

Maplewood made seven free throws in the fourth quarter to help put away the win.

Piper Como scored 18 of her 21 points in the second half for Grove City. Maddie Osborn had 15 points for the Eagles and Izzie Gamble 10.

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 79, JOHNSONBURG 22

ST. MARYS, Pa. – Scoring 48 first-half points, Elk County Catholic blew out visiting Johnsonburg, 79-22, in AML action.

The Lady Crusaders led 48-16 at halftime triggering the entire second half to be played using the Mercy Rule (30-point lead or greater in the second half).

Four different ECC players reached double digits led by Emily Mourer’s 16 points. Sydney Alexander and Tori Newton each added 13 points, and Lucy Klawuhn chipped in 11 points.

Sami Straub and Mya Pistner also had nine tallies each in the win.

Cadence Brechtel had 13 points for Johnsonburg.

ERIE 53, NORTH EAST 42

NORTH EAST, Pa. – Deaja Williams had a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds as Erie beat North East, 53-42.

Aubrey Neavins scored all 15 of her points in the first half, as the Royals built a 33-18 halftime lead.

Dreya Neavins added 10 points for Erie.

Alex Cozzens scored 21 points for North East.

BROCKWAY 48, FOREST AREA 31

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Up just five at halftime, Brockway used an 18-point third quarter to pull away from visiting Forest Area, 48-31.

The Lady Rovers led 19-14 at the break but used seven points from Sophia Morrison in the third quarter to nearly double their points total while taking a 37-26 lead into the fourth quarter.

Morrison finished with a career-best 13 points for Brockway with Kalina Powell adding 11 points and six steals. Raegan Gelnette contributed five points, 10 rebounds, and nine steals in the victory, and Sophia Schmader had three points, 16 rebounds, six assists, and five steals.

Jayden Colvin paced Forest Area with 15 points with Amber Guzzi adding nine points, and Kaylie Rooke chipping in four points, 11 rebounds, and six blocked shots. .

NORTHWESTERN 41, LAKEVIEW 32

STONEBORO, Pa. – Makayla Presser-Palmer scored 23 points as Northwestern outlasted Lakeview, 41-32.

Presser-Palmer also had eight rebounds in the win, while Chloe Yazembiak had five points and nine rebounds for the Wildcats.

Northwestern outscored Lakeview 25-17 in the second half.

Emma Marstellar had 16 points and four rebounds for Lakeview.

JAMESTOWN 49, IROQUOIS 38

JAMESTOWN, Pa. – Alayna Cadman had 21 points, five steals and three assists to help lead Jamestown to a 49-38 win over Iroquois.

McKayla Williams had 14 points for Jamestown, which led 29-22 at halftime. Audra Thomas pulled down seven rebounds for the Muskies.

Karina Reichard had 14 points for Lakeview.

CONNEAUT 31, UNION CITY 23

UNION CITY, Pa. – Lainie Harrington scored 16 points and also had five rebounds and three steals as Conneut beat Union City, 31-23.

Courtney Perrye was also in double figures scoring for CASH with 11 points, while Morgan Poff had seven steals and six rebounds and Hannah Brady five rebounds, three assists and two blocks.

Brooke VanTassel led Union City with seven points.

CATHEDRAL PREP 70, MT. LEBANON 50

ERIE, Pa. – Addie Biel poured in 30 points as Cathedral Prep rolled to a 70-50 win over Mount Lebanon.

Prep led 27-7 after the first quarter on its way to the win.

Biel and Jayden McBride combined for 50 points, with McBride scoring 20 in the win for the Ramblers.

Payton Collins led Mt. Lebo with 14 points.

MERCER 36, HICKORY 33

MERCER, Pa. – Mercer built a 24-18 halftime lead and held on for a 36-33 win over Hickory.

Pressley Washil scored all 10 of her points in the first half for Mercer, while McKenna McCandless scored a team-high 11 points.

Mariah Swanson had 12 of her 15 points in the first half for Hickory, while Kimora Robrerts had 11 points.

SAEGERTOWN 56, CRAWFORD CHRISTIAN 36

SAEGERTOWN, Pa. – Lindsey Greco and Lyndzee Amory had 20 points each to lift Saegertown to a 56-36 win over Crawford Christian.

The duo combined for 21 of Saegertown’s 23 points in the third quarter, as the Panthers went on a 23-8 run broke open what was a 23-16 score at halftime.

Gracie Oaks had 16 points for Crawford Christian, while Abryanna Epps added 12.

CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS 65, COMMODORE PERRY 24

HADLEY, Pa. – Payton Leandro scored 18 points as Cambridge Springs beat Commodore Perry, 65-24.

Leandro knocked down four 3’s in the win. Sydney Zilhaver added 14 points in the win, while Brooke Eldred had 10.

Abby Eber and Jazlynn Boyles had six points each for Commodore Perry.

GENERAL MCLANE 53, GIRARD 21

EDINBORO, Pa. – Libby Opp scored 18 of her 22 points in the first half as General McLane beat Girard, 53-21.

Sabre Gehner, Kiley Leasure and Ramey Plouse had six points each for GM.

Aiyanna Jenkins had 10 points for Girard.

SLIPPERY ROCK 46, REYNOLDS 20

TRANSFER, Pa. – Madison Romanovich scored 23 points to power Slippery Rock to a 46-20 win over Reynolds.

CJ Sabo added nine points for Slippery Rock in the win.

Ava Murcko had seven points for Reynolds.
