2024 PIAA Competitive Spirit Championships to be Competed Jan. 26-27

MECHANICSBURG – The 2024 PIAA Competitive Spirit Championships will be a two-day event beginning
Friday, Jan. 26, and concluding on Saturday, Jan 27 at the Giant Center in Hershey, Pa.

This is the 12th PIAA Competitive Spirit Championships.

Teams will compete in the 2A Small Division, 2A Large Division, 3A Small Division, 3A Large Division and Co-Ed Division.

The championships will have 120 squads competing for a title.

General admission tickets for the Competitive Spirit Championships can be purchased online. General admission ticket prices are $8 plus processing fees. Tickets will not be available at the gates.

The tentative Schedule for Semi-finals & Finals (Saturday, Jan. 27) is as follows: Semifinals 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and Finals Noon to 2:30 p.m.

2A SMALL DIVISION

The 2A Small Division will have 33 squads take the mats during the competition.

Only two schools were crowned PIAA champions, with the 2A Small Division being established in 2021.

Bishop McCort High School from District 6 will return to the championships and will look to defend their 2023 title. Bishop McCort previously won three 3A Medium Division titles before the 2A Division was established.

Lansdale Catholic High School from District 12 will look to get back on top after winning back-to-back championships in 2021 and 2022.

Returning finalists: Bishop McCort High School, Greater Johnstown High School, Central Valley High School, Elizabeth Forward High School, Archbishop Wood High School, Lansdale Catholic High School, Milton Area High School, and St. Marys High School.

District 9 schools participating: A-C Valley/Union, Redbank Valley, St. Marys

District 10 schools participating: Harbor Creek,

2A LARGE DIVISION

The 2A Large Division is made up of 11 teams. Only two schools have been crowned PIAA champions,
with the 2A Large Division established, also in 2021.

The WPIAL’s Neshannock High School won the last two PIAA titles in 2022 and 2023. Bishop McCort captured the inaugural title in 2021.

Richland High School from District 6 and Hickory High School from District 10 were runners-up in 2023.

Returning finalists: Richland High School, Hickory High School, Warren High School, Archbishop Ryan High School, and Karns City High School.

District 9 schools participating: Karns City, Elk County Catholic

District 10 schools participating: Warren, Hickory

3A SMALL DIVISION

The 3A Small Division will have 35 squads take the mats during the competition. Seven schools have
won PIAA championships.

Garnet Valley High School won the last two titles in 2022 and 2023, South Fayette High School captured titles in consecutive years (2020 and 2021), Bethel Park High School (2017 and 2019), Shaler Park High School (2018), Butler Area High School (2013 and 2016), Pine Richland High School (2015), and Greater Johnstown High School (2014).

Returning finalists: Abington High School, Garnet Valley High School, Ridley High School, Central Dauphin East High School, Cumberland Valley High School, Dallastown High School, North Hills High School, South Fayette High School, Thomas Jefferson High School, Pine Richland High School, and Easton Area High School.

District 9 schools participating: None

District 10 schools participating: None

3A LARGE DIVISION
The 3A Large Division will have 18 squads competing for a PIAA title. Eight teams have won championships in this division: Cumberland Valley (5 titles), Hempfield Area (2), and Bishop McCort, Garnet Valley, Springfield, and Saint Hubert Catholic have all won a title.

Hempfield Area High School from the WPIAL will look for a three-peat after winning the back-to-back championships in 2021 and 2022.

Returning finalists: Haverford High School, Delaware Valley High School, Baldwin High School, Hempfield Area High School, North Allegheny High School, and Saint Huberts Catholic High School.

District 9 schools participating: None

District 10 schools participating: None

CO-ED DIVISION

The Co-Ed Division will have 22 squads competing for a PIAA title.

Butler Area High School will try and defend its title after winning the 2023 Co-Ed Division Championship. McDowell High School leads the field in championships with seven, New Oxford High School (3 titles but also won a 3A Medium Division title the inaugural season in 2013), Bulter Area High School (2), and Downingtown West High School (1).

Returning finalists: Pennsburg High School, New Oxford High School, Bulter Area High School, and McDowell High School.

District 9 schools participating: DuBois

District 10 schools participating: McDowell
