RIDGWAY, Pa. – At its Nov. 29 meeting, the District 9 committee announced dates and locations for the 2024 swimming and diving championships and team and individual wrestling championships.
The swimming and diving championships will be held either Feb. 29 and March 2 or March 1 and March 2 at Clearfield Area High School.
The team wrestling tournament will be held Feb. 1 at Brookville High School, and the Class 2A individual wrestling tournament will be held Feb. 23 and Feb. 24 at PennWest Clarion’s Tippin Gym.
It was also announced that a survey may be taken of coaches and officials during basketball season in order to recognize the coaches and officials who promote basketball in a positive manner. Awards may be presented on Super Saturday.
Also, a discussion was held concerning varsity, junior high, and youth programs practicing together. Pete Grecco, D-9 wrestling chairman, will send out a memo to all schools clarifying the PIAA position on this matter.
A short discussion was held on evaluating how the new seeding system using a committee system to seed was received by the participating schools. All comments were favorable.
Communications were received from Oswayo Valley and Keystone.
The communication from Oswayo Valley was from head volleyball coach Emily Sullenger concerning an incident that occurred at a district volleyball match. The exact nature of the incident wasn’t reported in the minutes but the committee accepted the response of Sullenger.
The communication from Keystone’s administration concerned an incident where a junior high school basketball player practiced with the varsity team. The committee accepted the action taken by Keystone.
