Working Overtime: Prep, McLane Boys Notch First Round PIAA Wins

   

ERIE, Pa. – Noah Handzel called game.

Handzel’s overtime goal just 1:16 into the second overtime off a cross from Dylan Danch lifted Prep past Montour and into the second round of the PIAA Class 3A championships.

Prep trailed 1-0 in the late stages of regulation before Luke Trocki tied the game with three minutes to play.

The win lifts the Ramblers into a quarterfinal date with WPIAL champion South Fayette, a 2-0 winner over Kennard-Dale.

The game will be on Saturday at a site and time to be determined.

            

GENERAL MCLANE 2, SOUTH PARK 1, OVERTIME

SOUTH PARK TWP, Pa. – Gio Masone stepped up to play the role of hero for General McLane in the PIAA Class 2A first round against South Park on Tuesday.

Masone’s overtime goal lifted GM to a 2-1 win and into the second round.

South Park led 1-0 at halftime before Masone tied the game in the second half for the Lancers.

Cooper Robson had both assists for GM.

                          

With the win, General McLane advances to play Central Columbia, a 6-0 winner over Penn Cambria, on Saturday at a site and time to be determined.

BURRELL 9, REDBANK VALLEY 0

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Jayson Ireland scored four goals to send Burrell to a 9-0 win over Redbank Valley in the first round of the PIAA Class 1A championships.

Cam Wagner, Canilo Zanella, Vincent Guerrini, Luke Postupack and Luke Guerrini also found the back of the neck for Burrell.

Burrell advances to play Bentworth in the quarterfinals.

HAMPTON 6, BRADFORD 0

BRADFORD, Pa. – Luke Fiscus had a hat trick as Hampton built a 4-0 halftime lead en route to a 6-0 Class 3A first round win over Bradford.

Coleman Docherty, Oliver Spinola, and Danny Kenst also found the back of the net for Hampton.

With the win, Hampton advances to play Hershey in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

SHADY SIDE ACADEMY 2, FAIRVIEW 0

                        

FAIRVIEW, Pa. – Jackson Suski and Amir Awais both scored to send Shady Side to a 2-0 win over Fairview in the first round of the PIAA Class 2A championships.

With the win, Shady Side advances to play Quaker Valley in the PIAA quarterfinals on Saturday at a site and time to be determined.

BENTWORTH 3, SENECA 0

WATTSBURG, Pa. – Ryan Colbert and John Scott had first half goals as Bentworth beat Seneca, 3-0 in the first round of the PIAA Class 1A championships.

Ryan Moessner scored in the second half for Bentworth.

         

Bentworth advances to play Burrell in the PIAA quarterfinals on Saturday.
