WATERFORD, Pa. – In the season-opening 16-team Fort LeBoeuf Volleyball Tournament, it was the Warren Dragons that came away with the title, beating Maplewood in the championship 2-0, 25-23, 25-19 on Saturday.
Warren went 5-1 in pool play, beating Harbor Creek (25-20), Fairview (25-9) and Chautauqua Lake (25-22) in the first round and defeated Girard (25-14, 25-23) and Maplewood (25-23, 25-19) before splitting with Saegertown (19-25, 25-19).
In the quarterfinals, Warren beat Meadville, Harbor Creek topped Girard, Fort LeBoeuf beat Saegertown and Maplewood beat Sharpsville.
In the semifinals, Warren edged Harbor Creek (19-25, 25-17, 15-13) and Maplewood beat host LeBoeuf.
Warren coach Mike Dolan pointed to the strong play of Katie Madigan, Halee Mineweaser, Ellee Irwin and Carly Beers, as well as the front line defense of Kylie Fehlman and Alexia Bowers, as well as Summer Lucks in the back row.
