BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Clayton Cook wasn’t necessarily known as a 3-point shooter, but the Brookville senior hit one when it mattered the most.

Cook launched a 3 from about 27 feet out just before time expired, lifting Brookville to a dramatic 46-43 overtime win over Seton LaSalle in the Raiders’ PIAA 3A first round game.

Cook inherited a pass from teammate Noah Peterson, who was trapped in the corner, took the shot, and was mobbed his teammates, as well as the Brookville student section.

Rewatch the shot:

It wasn’t at all what coach Dalton Park drew up, but it worked to perfection.

“It was supposed to be a down screen for Clayton,” Brookville head coach Dalton Park said. “If he got it at the foul line and had the shot take it. If he had to drive, take it. If he didn’t have the drive, at least take a dribble and try to someone in and kick to either corner. I am not exactly sure how it went south, but somehow we dribbled up to the corner. We got it to Clayton, and he knew the time was down and kind of turned. There was some shot in it. It wasn’t just a throw up. The rest is awesome for him in front of this crowd.”

It capped what was a defensive slugfest of a game for a Brookville team that has become accustomed to playing well into March.

Ironically, Cook also had a 3-point attempt to win the game at the end of regulation, but it was off the mark, sending the game to the extra session tied at 41-41.

“Honestly, not a lot was going through my mind,” Cook said. “I looked up at the clock when Noah had the ball in the corner, and I just screamed his name. I saw he was doubled and no one was on me. I was probably the only one who could get something off at that point. (It) was a little bit of a prayer, but it felt good leaving my hands so I just kind of watched it.”

The game was close throughout with Brookville leading 13-11 at the end of the first quarter but trailing 22-20 at halftime and 32-28 going to the fourth quarter.

Cook led Brookville with a team-high 17 points.
