ERIE, Pa. – Erie’s Bradon Schneider did something no other Royal has done before – win a state title in track and field.
Schneider, competing in the Class 3A pole vault, won state gold by clearing 15’6”.
Schneider, a senior, was one of two athletes to clear 15’6”, the other being Palmyra junior Mason Bucks. Bucks and Schneider both missed all three of their attempts at 16’, but Schneider took home the gold based on fewest misses.
This came on the heels of Schneider winning the D10 title by clearing 15 feet, more than three feet clear of his next closest competitor.
Erie High was formed in 2017, combining East, Strong Vincent and Central Tech High Schools.
Schneider also became the first athlete from an Erie public school since Tech Memorial’s Dietrich Jells won the Class 3A 100 meters in 1989. Jells went on to a stellar football career at the University of Pittsburgh and played four seasons in the NFL with the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles.
