OIL CITY, Pa. – Ethen Knox’s run to the record books was something to behold in the 2022 season.

The Oil City standout, who will be a senior this upcoming season, rewrote both school, state and national records.

The numbers, as well as the awards, were staggering.

Just to name a few, Knox was selected as YDL Sports Network Jim Kelly District 10 Player of the Year, the Pennsylvania Football News Class 3A Player of the Year, a first team MaxPreps Small Town All-American and was one of 25 players nationally selected to the USA Today HSSA Offensive Team.

The Oilers finished the season 7-3, with Knox ranking second in the nation in rushing yards among teams that enter their stats on MaxPreps with 3,705 yards.

Knox had 41 rushing touchdowns, averaging 370.5 yards per game on the ground, and rushed for at least 400 yards in six games, including four in a row from Week 2 through Week 5. That broke a national record for most games with 400-plus yards in a season, a record that was held by current Tennessee Titans star Derrick Henry.

Knox was also a ball hawk on defense, recording six interceptions to go along with 63 tackles.

The other players from Pennsylvania to join Knox on the MaxPreps first team were Central quarterback Jeff Hoenstine, Southern Columbia all-purpose back Braeden Wisloski and Belle Vernon defensive back Quinton Martin.

Knox was one of six running backs on the USA Today team, joining Jarvis Green of Dutch Fork (S.C.), Judah Price of Independence (W. Va.), Roderick Robinson of Lincoln (Calif.), Lamar Sperling of Archbishop Hoban (Ohio), and Wynn Stang of Mukwonago (Wis.).

He was one of just three juniors on the team, joining quarterbacks Micah Alejado of Bishop Gorman (Nev.) and 5-star prospect Jadyn Davis of Providence Day School (N.C.), and one of just two players from Pennsylvania, joining incoming 5-star Penn State offensive line prospect J’ven Williams.
