Strong Second Half Helps Port Allegany Girls Past Coudy; Erie, Moniteau Nab Close Wins

PORT ALLEGANY, Pa. – A strong second half helped Port Allegany pick up a key early NTL win, 42-36, over visiting Coudersport.

A 14-10 second-quarter advantage thanks to 11 points from Hallie Rigas, who hit three 3-pointers, had helped Coudersport take a 22-21 halftime lead.

But the Lady Gators rallied in the third quarter outscoring Coudersport 10-6 in the frame to take a 31-28 lead into the final eight minutes. Ella Moses’s four points led Port Allegany’s third-quarter charge.

Kayleigha Dowell then helped the victors seal the deal by hitting a pair of fourth-quarter 3-pointers.

                                      

Moses led Port Allegany with 19 points, seven rebounds, and three steals while Jenna Renner added nine points and six rebounds. Dowell had six points, six rebounds, and four steals.

Rigas led Coudersport with 19 points and six rebounds but was the only Lady Falcon to score more than four points. Savannah Myers added four points, four rebounds, and four steals, and Sierra Myers had three points and four rebounds.

ERIE 43, MCDOWELL 40

ERIE, Pa. – Aubrey Nevins scored 20 of her 22 points in the first half as Erie earned a 43-40 win over McDowell.

The game was tied at 32-all before four points from Gabby Vaughn and two points from Kzia Green pushed the lead to 38-34 for Erie.

                          

Erie led 40-37 when the Trojans’ Amaiya Nelson missed a 3 and Dreya Nevins got the rebounds. After hitting the first free throw, she missed the second and Williams got the rebound and dumped it down to Aubrey Nevins for a bucket to put the game away.

Dreya Nevins finished with nine points for Erie, while Vaughn added six.

Nelson led McDowell with 14 points.

MONITEAU 42, CLARION 39

WEST SUNBURY, Pa. – Moniteau built a seven-point halftime lead against visiting Clarion and then held off the Lady Cats for a 42-39 non-conference victory.

The Lady Warriors led 24-17 at the break thanks to 12 points from Catherine Kelly and six from Kendall Sankey.

But Clarion rallied in the second half behind Taylor Alston and Sophie Babington.

Babington scored all eight of her points in the third quarter to help cut the deficit to four, 31-27, and Alston scored 10 of her game-high 21 points in the fourth quarter.

Moniteau struggled from the free-throw line in the final eight minutes, going 3 of 7, allowing Clarion to hang around.

Sankey led the Lady Warriors with a 15-point, 15-rebound double-double, while Kelly had a team-high 20 points.

                                   

FAIRVIEW 45, CORRY 21

CORRY, Pa. – Bre Heidt scored 17 points as Fairview topped Corry, 45-21.

Heidt was 9-of-10 from the free throw line in the win.

Riley Sholes was also in double figures for Fairview with 11 points.

Sadye Dyne paced Corry with five points.

CLEARFIELD 72, BELLEFONTE 50

HYDE, Pa. – Cayleigh Walker and Mia Helsel each scored 21 points to lift Clearfield to its first LHAC East win, 72-50, over visiting Bellefonte.

Helsel scored 11 points in the first half and Walker added 15 after halftime, including nine in the third quarter.

Sonny Diehl added 15 tallies in the win, while Hannah Glunt chipped in with 11.

Keira Whitman led Bellefonte with 19 points with Maria Cotter adding 11 and Mackenzie Ellenberger scoring 10.

NORTH CLARION 50, FOREST AREA 12

FRILLS CORNERS, Pa. – A 24-point first quarter helped North Clarion roll to a 50-12 KSAC win over visiting Forest Area.

Lily Homan scored 12 of her game-high 16 minutes in the opening frame, while Kyler Freeman added five of her 10 points in the quarter.

Freeman added eight rebounds, while Homan had eight steals. Ainsley Hartle dished out five assists to go with four points. In all, 10 North Clarion players scored in the victory.

Kaylie Rooke had four points, five rebounds, and three blocked shots for Forest Area.

                                  

ST. MARYS 62, KANE 30

KANE, Pa. – Jayssa Snelick and Maura Caskey combined for 41 points to lead visiting St. Marys to a 62-30 AML victory over Kane.

Snelick led the Lady Dutch with 23 points with Caskey adding 18. Molly Hanslovan chipped in 11 points.

St. Marys led 25-7 at the end of the first quarter behind 11 points from Caskey.

Kylie Iak paced Kane with 10 points with Hailey Hillman adding seven.

DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 56, BROCKWAY 36

BROCKWAY, Pa. – DuBois Central Catholic overcame a slow start to pick up a 56-36 AML win at Brockway.

The Lady Cardinals trailed 8-4 early before ending the first half on a 10-0 run and then outscoring the Lady Rovers 16-4 in the second half to take a 30-12 halftime lead.

Kayley Risser scored 13 points to lead a balanced DCC effort with Marina Hanes adding nine tallies, Emma Elensky scoring eight points, and Julia Sebring chipping in with seven.

Rheanna Spinda and Sophia Schmader each scored 11 points for Brockway.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 63, OIL CITY 26

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – Avary Powell shot 12 of 13 from the floor on her way to a game-high 25 points to lead Punxsutawney to a 63-26 home win over Oil City.

Powell completed a double-double with 11 rebounds.

Danielle Griebel also had a double-double for the Lady Chucks with 13 points and 10 assists while going 5 of 7 from the floor. She added five rebounds and five steals.

Emily Dobbins also reached double digits in the win with 10 points.

Sophia Garmong paced Oil City with 10 points with Riley Guiste adding nine, including going 5 of 7 from the free-throw line.

OSWAYO VALLEY 42, SMETHPORT 34

SMETHPORT, Pa. – Charlotte Austin-Keech and Layken Enty each scored 13 points to lift Oswayo Valley to a 42-34 road NTL win over Smethport.

Makenna Manning added eight points for the Green Wave with Eva West adding six tallies.

Manning, Austin-Keech, and Enty each contributed seven rebounds in the win.

Payton Neff hit four 3-pointers to score a team-best 12 points for Smethport. Jaidyn Goodman added eight points and six rebounds, and Elizabeth Hungiville had five points, 15 rebounds, and three blocked shots.
