Sept. 9, 2020 Tennis and Golf Recaps: Clearfield, Oil City notch wins; McDowell’s Brosig goes under par

HYDE, Pa. – Clearfield swept all five singles matches en route to a 6-1 win over visiting Central-Martinsburg on Wednesday.

The combination of Kylie VanTassel, Lindsey Kerlin, Ally Gaines, Peyton Reese and Kirstie VanTassel yielded two points or less in each set, all sweeping 2-0.

Kirstie VanTassel and Lauryn Kitchen of Clearfield bat Violet Smith and Annabel Shippey, 8-1, while the Central duo of Lily Mercado and Kate Olson earned an 8-2 victory.

OIL CITY 3, KENNEDY CATHOLIC 2

HERMITAGE, Pa. – Aided by the strong play of Emily Russell, Oil City earned a 3-2 victory over Kennedy Catholic.

Russell earned a hard-fought 6-1-, 6-4 victory over KC’s Andrea Suher.

In the other singles’ match, Lydia Grove of Kennedy topped Payton Burk, 6-2,6-0.

Oil City received two forfeits, one in singles and one in doubles.

MCDOWELL’S BROSIG CARDS 1-UNDER IN TROJANS WIN

ERIE, Pa. – McDowell’s Natalie Brosig shot a 1-under 32 to lead the Lady Trojans to victory in a Region 3 match at J.C. Martin Golf Course.

McDowell’s team score of 113 bested Erie High and Meadville.

NORTH EAST WINS REGION 2 MEGA-MATCH

ASHTABULA, Ohio – North East standout Lydia Swan recorded a 36 and Anna Swan a 38 to lead the Pickers’ to a Region 2 Mega-Match win at Chapel Hills Golf Course.

North East (117) edged Villa (122) by five strokes.

BOYS’ GOLF

JACONSKI, DUBOIS TOP BROCKWAY

DUBOIS, Pa. DuBois’ Cody Jaconski shot a 42 to lead the host Beavers past Brockway, 193-213.

Brockway’s Dylan Coder was right behind him with a 43.

BROOKVILLE EDGES CURWENSVILLE

CURWENSVILLE, Pa. – Curwensville’s Mike Daniels had the low nine with a 46, but it was visiting Brookville that edged the Golden Tide, 209-213 at Eagles Ridge Golf Course.

Curwensville’s Nate Hryn and Brookville’s Bryce Rafferty both shot 48.
