Saegertown, Corry, North East, Mercyhurst Prep Advance in D10 2A VB; Top Seeds All Advance in Class 1A

LINESVILLE, Pa. – Saegertown used a balanced attack to earn a 3-0 (25-19, 25-9, 25-11) win over Franklin in their District 10 Class 2A quarterfinal.

Maggie Triola led the attack with 10 kills. Lyndzee Amory had eight kills, and Alyssa Arblaster and Brywn McLaughlin each had seven kills and five aces.

Rylie Braymer had six digs and five aces, Paige Smith had four kills and four blocks, and Rhiannon Paris had four digs.

Lindsey Greco had five digs and ran the offense with 33 set assists.

Katie Boal had eight kills and two blocks, and Abby Boland had six kills and three blocks to lead Franklin. Jennifer Blum had eight digs, and Estella Adams had 19 set assists.

            

The second-seeded Panthers will take on No. 3 seed North East, a 3-0 winner over Fairview, in the semifinals on Tuesday, Oct. 31 at a time and location to be announced.

(1) CORRY 3, (9) HARBOR CREEK 0

ERIE, Pa. – Aubrey Chase had eight kills to lead a balanced Corry effort in a 3-0 (25-18, 25-10, 25-15) win over Harbor Creek in the District 10 Class 2A quarterfinals.

Grace Allen added seven kills and nine digs for the Beavers, while Payton McCray ran the offense with 23 set assists.

Leading the defense for Corry were Makenna Moore with 12 digs and Halle Albers with 11.

                          

With the win, the top seed Beavers advance to play No. 5 Mercyhurst Prep, a 3-0 winner over Slippery Rock, in the semifinals on Tuesday, Oct. 31 at a time and location to be announced.

(3) NORTH EAST 3, (11) FAIRVIEW 0

ERIE, Pa. – Cadence Jones had 20 kills as North East advanced to the District 10 Class 2A semifinals with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-13, 25-21) win over Fairview.

Kayla Forsythe added eight kills for North East, while Jalyssa Wicker had six and Allison Gibson five.

Grace Sanfilippo ran the North East offense with 35 set assists, while Briell King had 13 digs, Sanfilippo 11, Aleksandra Tupper nine and Anna Swan eight.

For Fairview, Addy Greene had 12 set assists for Fairview, while Maddie Weber had four aces and five kills, Taylor Polach 10 digs and Cora Hirz 10 digs.

(5) MERCYHURST PREP 3, (4) SLIPPERY ROCK 0

LINESVILLE, Pa. – Addica Sperry had 26 kills and 17 digs as Mercyhurst Prep advanced to the D10 Class 2A semifinals with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 30-28) win over Slippery Rock.

Olivia Kulyk also had a big night for the Lakers with 16 kills and 13 digs, while Julia Seth had 50 set assists and six digs.

Da’Zhana Jordan (13 digs), Eva Dvorark (12 digs) and Mya Fuller (7 digs) led the defense for the Lakers, while Tatum Showalter added four kills.

                        

It was a milestone moment Anora Robare in the loss, as the Slippery Rock standout had 38 assists to surpass 1,000 for her career (1,032).

Also for the Rockets, Molly Bissell and Avalee Demidovich had 14 and 13 kills, respectively, while Adison Novad added five kills, CJ Sabo six blocks (4 solo, 2 assisted) and Lexi Plsakov 15 digs. Sabo surpassed 100 blocks on the season in the process.

CLASS 1A QUARTERFINALS

(1) COCHRANTON 3, (8) KENNEDY CATHOLIC 0

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The top-seeded Cardinals rolled into the District 10 Class 1A semifinals as Cochranton swept Kennedy Catholic 3-0 (25-7, 25-7, 25-7) in the quarterfinals.

         

Brooklyn Needler led the way with nine kills. Marley Rodax had five kills, and Maggie Jackson ran the offense with 20 assists.

The Cardinals served 16 aces in the match.

Cochranton will face No. 4 seed Cambridge Springs, a 3-1 winner over Lakeview, in the semifinals on Tuesday, Oct. 31 at a time and location to be announced.

(2) WEST MIDDLESEX 3, (7) EISENHOWER 0

COCHRANTON, Pa. – Caitlin Stephens led a balanced effort for West Middlesex with eight kills, 10 assists and four blocks in a 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-23) win over Eisenhower in the D10 Class 1A quarterfinals.

Emma Mild had five kills and five digs for the Big Reds, while Avery Hanahan had five kills and 12 digs, Sloan Mild nine digs and Abby Stinedurf 12 set assists and nine digs.

With the win, the Big Reds advance to play No. 3 Maplewood, a 3-0 winner over Commodore Perry, in the semifinals on Tuesday, Oct. 31 at a site and time to be announced.

(3) MAPLEWOOD 3, (6) COMMODORE PERRY 0

COCHRANTON, Pa. – Savannah O’Hara led a balanced attack with 11 kills as defending PIAA champion Maplewood advanced to the D10 Class 1A semifinals with a 3-0 (25-10 25-16, 25-12) win over Commodore Perry.

Madison O’Hara had 10 kills, six digs and two aces, while Elizabeth Hunter had seven kills and Maggie Means ran the offense with 33 set assists and three aces.

Bree Neely led the Maplewood defense with 19 digs.

(4) CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS 3, (5) LAKEVIEW 1

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Audrey Bullock and Claire Mumford had 12 kills each as Cambridge Springs advanced to the D10 Class 1A semifinals with a 3-1 (25-18, 22-25, 25-17, 25-19) win over Lakeview.

Sydney Zilhaver also had seven kills and three blocks and Bullock also had three blocks.

Kendra Boozer and Bridget Bullock had 16 and 14 set assists, respectively for the Blue Devils, while Kylee Miller had 19 digs and Audrey Bullock 14.

CLASS 4A SUBREGIONAL

MCDOWELL 3, ALLDERDICE 0

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – McDowell swept its way into the PIAA tournament with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-19) win at Allderdice in their Class 4A subregional.

Sophia Nestor led the Trojans’ attack with 10 kills and five aces. Ana Fetzner had eight kills, and Tayler Rech served nine aces.

Chase Rech had five digs and Halle Guentner had seven digs, six aces, and ran the offense with 27 set assists.
