Reynolds Wins NW 2A Regional Wrestling Crown, Raiders, Grove City Each Have Three Champions

SHARON, Pa. – Led by three Regional champions and four state qualifiers, Reynolds took home the PIAA Class 2A Northwester Regional wrestling title with a score of 136.5 in a tournament held Friday and Saturday at Sharon High School.

                        

The Raiders scored 136.5 points well ahead of Clearfield and Grove City, who tied for second with 90.5.

Grove City also had three champions, while Cranberry and Brookville each had two, and Clearfield, Port Allegany, and Girard had one each.

Leading the way for Reynolds was Louie Gill at 121 pounds who had an 18-1 technical fall win over Clearfield’s Cash Diehl.

Also winning titles for the Raiders were Angelo Lomonte at 107 pounds and Logan Stewart at 127 pounds.

                              

Lomonte knocked off Saegertown’s Sierra Chiesa, 4-3, while Stewart defeated Brockway’s Weston Pisarchick by fall at 1:59.

Grove City’s champions included the brother tandem of Hudson Hohman at 133 pounds and Hunter Hohman at 172 pounds as well as Cody Hamilton at 152 pounds.

Hudson Hohman defeated Conneaut’s Hunter Gould, 3-2, while Hunter Hohman took down Corry’s Mason Savitz with a 15-4 major decision.

Hamilton, meanwhile, topped Clearfield’s Brady Collins, 5-4.

The Hohmans weren’t the only brothers to take home Regional crowns as Cranberry’s Dalton Wenner (114 pounds) and Dane Wenner (139 pounds).

                          

Dalton Wenner beat Saegertown’s Carter Beck, 3-2, while Dane Wenner scored a 1-0 win over Reynold’s Chase Bell.

Brookville’s champions came at 145 pounds with Cole Householder and at 215 pounds with Gavin Hannah.

Householder had a 3-2 decision over Wyatt Lazzar of Commodore Perry with Hannah beating General McLane’s Ryan Dedrick with an 11-3 major decision.

Rounding out the champions were Girard’s Story Buchanan at 160 pounds, Clearfield’s Carter Chamberlain at 189 pounds, Port Allegany’s Carson Neely at 285 pounds.

Buchanan knocked off General McLane’s Hudson Spires with an 8-0 major decision, Chamberlain avenged a loss in the District 9 finals to Brookville’s Easton Belfiore with a 4-3 decision, and Neely pinned Fort LeBoeuf’s John Duran at 2:51.

While not having a champion, General McLane did send the most wrestlers to the PIAA Tournament with five qualifying.

In addition to Spires at 160 pounds and Dedrick at 215 pounds, Magnus Lloyd finished third at 189 pounds, Clay Kimmy was fourth at 133 pounds, and Chance Kimmy was fourth at 152 pounds.

Clearfield, Grove City, Cranberry, Brookville, and North East each joined Reynolds with four state qualifiers.

The fourth for Clearfield was Ty Aveni, who finished fourth at 145 pounds, while Grove City’s fourth qualifier was Tanner Hamilton, who was fourth at 114 pounds.

In addition to its two champions, Cranberry had a pair of third-place finishers with Aiden Thompson taking third at 107 pounds and Elijah Brosious taking third at 127 pounds.

                           

Brookville added a fourth-place finisher in Jared Popson at 121 pounds to its two champions and its runner-up, while North East had three third-place finishers – Bryson Galloway (121 pounds), Cyrus Hand (133 pounds), and Rocky Kowle (114 pounds) – and a fourth-place finisher – Kyler See at 127 pounds.

Port Allegany checked in with three state qualifiers with Neely being joined by third-place finishers Aiden Bliss at 172 pounds and Miska Young at 215 pounds.

Fort LeBoeuf also had three state qualifiers with heavyweight Duran joined by JoJo Przybycien, who was third at 160 pounds, and Conner McChesney, who was fourth at 189 pounds.

Schools with a pair of state qualifiers included Greenville, Sharpsville, and Brockway, while Corry, Commodore Perry, St. Marys, Saegertown, Northwestern, Conneaut, Harbor Creek, Central Clarion, Cambridge Springs, and Kane each had one.

Here are the top four in each weight class who qualified for the state tournament, which begins Thursday, March 7, at the Giant Center in Hershey, Pa.
