Region 3 Takes Center Stage in Week 3 in District 10

Hickory's Keenan Scullin.

It’s Week 3, which means more teams are venturing into region play in District 10.

That includes the ultra-competitive Region 3 which includes Sharon at Hickory, Grove City at Farrell and Slippery Rock at Greenville.

There are also a full slate of games in Region 2, a pair in Region 1 and some intriguing non-region matchups, including Reynolds at Sharpsville and North East at Oil City.

Let’s dig in.

REGION 3

SHARON (2-0) at HICKORY (2-0)

To say these two teams are off to strong starts might be an understatement. Sharon has yet to yield a point in lopsided wins over Neshannock and Warren, while Hickory’s offense has been firing on all cylinders, scoring 108 combined points in wins over Harbor Creek and Franklin.

Hickory quarterback Zander Telesz has been nearly perfect, going 22-for-28 for 408 yards, six touchdowns and zero interceptions. He has a plethora of weapons to throw to in Tylon Cousin Jr. (three touchdowns), William Acrie (two touchdowns) and Timmy Krivosh. Freshman Kelvin Morrison has rushed for over 200 yards and three touchdowns, while Sean Kennedy provides the thunder in the backfield.

For Sharon, it’s all about spreading the wealth on offense, as Mister Ham (111 yards rushing, 2 touchdowns) and Cortez Nixon (154 yards) lead the rushing attack. Ham didn’t have to throw much in the win over Warren, but does have 202 yards passing and three touchdowns.

GROVE CITY (1-1) at FARRELL (2-0)

Farrell had one of its biggest regular season wins in recent memory last week, 24-17 over Warren Harding (Ohio), which is the equivalent of a Class 6A school in Pennsylvania.

The Steelers’ offense is balanced and has a ton of weapons. Juelz Johnson has rushed for 232 yards and four touchdowns the first two weeks of the season, and the passing game is equally explosive. Senior quarterback Kabron Smith has thrown for 330 yards and three touchdowns. His top targets are Simeir Wade (158 yards, 1 touchdows), Brandon Chambers, Danny Odem Jr. and Juju Phillips.

Grove City, meanwhile, bounced back from a tough season-opening loss to Avonworth with a 62-7 win over Northwestern. Hunter Hohman does it all for the Eagles, having thrown for 402 yards and six touchdowns through two weeks while also rushing for 164 yards and three touchdowns. The Eagles also feature one of the best receiving units in District 10, led by Gavin Lutz (199 yards, 4 touchdowns) and Nathan Greer (133 yards, 2 touchdowns).

The Rockets, meanwhile, are looking to bounce back from a 27-17 loss to General McLane and a 49-7 setback to Slippery Rock. Eli Andreson is a weapon at quarterback, as evidenced by his performance in Week 1 in which he threw for 212 yards and ran for 100 more.
