Prep Breaks Out the Lumber to Beat Franklin For D10 4A Softball Championship Powered by N. Washington Rodeo

HERMITAGE, Pa. – Cathedral Prep’s bats delivered a D10 championship-worthy performance, going 15-for-27 in a 13-6 win over Franklin to capture the Class 4A crown.

Madison Simmerman went 3-for-3 with four RBIs, while Haley Dever set the tone atop the lineup, going 2-for-2 with three runs and two RBIs.

The game was tied 3-3 going to the fourth, and a Simmerman 2-run single scored Dever and Megan Kelly to make it 5-3.

The Ramblers broke the game open with five runs in the fifth. Addison Baldi had an RBI double to open the scoring in the inning, followed by RBI singles from Dever and Jenna Wagner and a 2-run double off the bat of Emalie Thomas.

That was enough for Wagner, who scattered 11 hits and allowed six runs (four earned) in her complete-game victory. She also struck out 14 and walked just one.

                  

Wagner finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs, while Mackenzie Moore was 4-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

Abigail Boland hit a solo home run in the seventh inning for Franklin, while Rylee Hanna was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs and Autuman Fitzgerald was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run.

Trinity Edge took the loss, allowing 13 runs (12 earned) in six innings on 15 hits while striking out five.

Prep will play the No. 3 team from the WPIAL, either Elizabeth Forward or Chartiers Valley, in the first round of states on Monday, June 5.
