PCC Forced to Forfeit PIAA 6A Quarterfinal because of COVID-19; McDowell Advances to Semifinals

   
   

ERIE, Pa. – The PIAA announced Friday afternoon that Pittsburgh Central Catholic has had to forfeit its PIAA Class 6A quarterfinal football game Saturday against McDowell due to COVID reasons.

McDowell will advance to the semifinals where it will play the winner of the Delaware Valley/Central York game Nov. 20 or Nov. 21.

The Trojans are the second Erie County team to be awarded a forfeit because of COVID-19 Friday. Earlier in the day, Wyoming Valley West announced it was forfeiting its Class 5A quarterfinal game to Cathedral Prep.

With the two forfeits, four games remain, as of 2:10 p.m., to be played this weekend involving District 10 or District 9 teams including two Friday – Hickory vs. Bedford in Class 3A and Wilmington vs. Chestnut Ridge in Class 2A – and two Saturday – Oil City vs. Upper Moreland in Class 4A and Reynolds vs. Redbank Valley in Class 1A.
