Parks has 25 Kills as Meadville tops NE; Defending Champs Maplewood Get 1st Win; Clarion Drops First KSAC Set Since 2019 but Rallies to Beat Redbank (Aug. 31 VB Recaps)

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Emma Parks, Elliott Schleicher, and the Meadville Bulldogs picked up their second big win of the week, 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-20) over North East.

Parks had 25 kills on her way to Allegheny Grille of Foxburg Player of the Game honors, while Schleicher had 34 set assists, 12 digs, four aces and three blocks.

The win comes on the heels of the Bulldogs’ 3-1 win over defending PIAA 1A state champion Maplewood on Tuesday.

            

“I think for us it was focusing on our side of the court,” Parks said. “We knew that they were going to make some plays and we just had to be resilient and overcome that and move on to our side.”

North East actually led, 20-17 in the third set, before Meadville closed the match on an 8-0 run, capped by a kill from Aubrey Decker.

Kendall Mealy had 13 digs for Meadville, while Sydney Holt added eight kills.

                          

MAPLEWOOD 3, EISENHOWER 0

RUSSELL, Pa. – Maplewood cleaned up most of its serving issues from its previous match and rolled to a 3-0 (25-12, 25-10, 25-14) win at Eisenhower.

Maggie Means was particularly strong at the service line, serving long runs in each set, including seven straight points in the first, and six aces on her way to earning Allegheny Grille of Foxburg Player of the Match honors.

“I had a bad serving night against Meadville so I was wanting to redeem myself,” Means said during the Cole Orthodontic Associates postgame interview. “We still got some errors, but I think it was good that we also played while we served, it wasn’t just the serving game. Everybody stepped in and played their part.”

After a back-and-forth start to the first set, Means went to the service line with Maplewood leading 11-9. The Tigers scored the next seven points to take an 18-9 lead on their way to a 25-12 set win.

Caroline Smyth had five blocks and two kills for the Knights. Emilie Jones had four kills and Lainey Font had three points.

Bree Neely had 10 kills and 6 digs and Elizabeth Hunter had 9 kills. Lexy Potosky had 13 digs and Means ran the offense with 26 assists and added 6 digs.

OTTO-ELDRED 3, NORTHERN POTTER 2

ULYSSES, Pa. – Carrie Drummond recorded 31 kills, 18 digs, and three aces to lift Otto-Eldred to a 3-2 (23-25, 25-11, 22-25, 25-16, 15-11) come-from-behind win at Northern Potter.

Kate Rhinehart added 21 kills, 15 digs, and five aces for the Lady Terrors while Anna Schuessler ran the offense with 41 set assists.

Hayee Chapman had eight kills, four aces, 23 digs, and a block for Northern Potter with Kayden Brown adding six kills, 12 set assists, and 18 digs, Molly Cady contributing seven kills and a block, and Kayla Hyde 18 digs, 11 set assists, and three kills.

FRANKLIN 3, WILMINGTON 0

         

FRANKLIN, Pa. – Katie Boal had nine kills and two blocks to lift Franklin to a 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-16) home win over Wilmington.

Jennifer Blum added six kills and 13 digs in the victory with Jillian Ewing contributing 13 digs.

Estella Adams ran the offense for the Knights with 22 set assists.

CLARION 3, REDBANK VALLEY 1

NEW BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Redbank Valley did something that no one has done in four years, taking a set from Clarion, but the Lady Cats won the final three sets to beat the homestanding Lady Bulldogs, 3-1 (19-25, 25-12, 25-23, 25-21).

The victory in set one was the first time a KSAC opponent beat Clarion in a set since A-C Valley took set two in a 3-1 loss Sept. 24, 2019. The Lady Cats streak reached 119 straight sets before the defeat.

But the Lady Cats pushed their KSAC win streak to 61 in a row by taking the next three sets behind 10 kills, 16 set assists, and four digs from Taylor Alston. Clarion’s last KSAC loss was Sept. 19, 2017, 3-2, to A-C Valley.

Hadlee Campbell had a match-best 15 kills for the Lady Cats while also recording six digs, and Marley Kline added nine kills.

Sophie Babington served seven aces leading the way to a 13-ace performance for Clarion, who also got six aces, 18 set assists, and eight digs from freshman Addi Campbell.

Taylor Ripple led Redbank Valley with nine kills and 10 digs while Izzy Bond added six kills and six digs and Mylee Harmon and Kira Bonnano each had four kills and eight digs.

Elaina Carrico ran the offense for Redbank Valley with 19 set assists.

MCDOWELL 3, FAIRVIEW 2

ERIE, Pa. – A strong all-around match from Halle Guetner led McDowell to a come-from-behind win over visiting Fairview, 3-2 (25-15, 23-25, 21-25, 25-21, 15-12).

Guetner had 19 set assists, 14 digs, and 10 kills.

Ana Fetzner added six kills, 11 aces, and eight digs for the Trojans with Sophia Nestor adding 10 kills and Gabby DeLuca eight kills.

Chase Rech paced the defense with 19 digs and Taylor Rech added 12 digs.

Josie Plaster added 16 assists and five digs.

NORTH CLARION 3, CRANBERRY 1

SENECA, Pa. – Kyler Freeman had 11 kills, four digs, three aces, and two blocks to lead North Clarion to a 3-1 (25-22, 21-25, 25-13, 25-23) win at Cranberry.

Brenna Thompson added eight kills, three blocks, three aces, and three digs for the She-Wolves with McKenzie Lencer chipping in five kills and four digs.

Ainsley Hartle ran the offense with 30 set assists.

Ayanna Ferringer had a match-high 13 kills for Cranberry while adding six blocks, five digs, and three aces. Lexi Reisinger added six aces, four kills, and two blocks, and Allie Rembold had 13 set assists and two aces.

COCHRANTON 3, CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS 0

COCHRANTON, Pa. – Brooklyn Needler and Claire McCartney each had six kills to help Cochranton to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-14) home win over Cambridge Springs.

Needler also added six aces with Dani Hoffman serving four aces. Macie Williams chipped in eight digs.

Maggie Jackson ran the offense for the Cardinals with 20 set assists.

CLARION-LIMESTONE 3, VENANGO CATHOLIC 0

OIL CITY, Pa. – Visiting Clarion-Limestone got eight kills and seven aces from Maddy Greeley on its way to a 3-0 (25-11, 25-5, 25-6) win over Venango Catholic.

Ansley Burke added six kills for the Lady Lions while Kaylee Smith ran the offense with 19 set assists. Smith also served nine aces.

WEST MIDDLESEX 3, COMMODORE PERRY 0

HADLEY, Pa. – Caitlin Stephens had 15 set assists, five digs, five kills, and three aces to lift visiting West Middlesex to a 3-0 (25-17, 28-26, 25-22) win over Commodore Perry.

Emma Mild added eight kills, five digs, and four aces for the Big Red with Maggie Briggs chipping in five kills and Avery Hannahan adding five kills, 10 digs, and three aces.

Also for West Middlesex, Abby Stinedurf contributed six set assists and five digs.

SHEFFIELD 3, FOREST AREA 0

SHEFFIELD, Pa. – Kassidy Orinko had 10 kills and three blocks to help Sheffield to a 3-0 (25-10, 25-6, 25-10) home win over Forest Area.

Emily Davidson added five digs in the win, while Kadence Steffan had five aces and ran the offense for the Lady Wolverines with 18 set assists.

HARBOR CREEK 3, CATHEDRAL PREP 2

HARBORCREEK, Pa. – Hannah Smith had 10 kills to help Harbor Creek hold off visiting Cathedral Prep, 3-2 (26-25, 22-25, 25-20, 23-25, 15-12).

Liz Gunther added five kills and five digs for the Huskies with Lexi Janke also recording five kills and Aly Hester 13 digs. Elise Benim added nine digs and Kayla Besee chipped in seven digs.

Talon King (14 set assists) and Addison Lucas (seven set assists) ran the offense for Harbor Creek.

Kaylin Laird paced Cathedral Prep with 10 kills and nine digs with Colette Speros adding nine kills and Olivia Hutchinson recording a match-high 15 kills to go with seven blocks.

Mackenzie Moore helped the Rambers’ defense with 12 digs, and Kamyrn Resurrection ran the Prep offense with 36 set assists.

BROCKWAY 3, BROOKVILLE 0

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Lauren Rendos had nine kills and four digs to help Brockway to a 3-0 win at Brookville.

Tehya Shaw added four kills and Sophia Schmader three kills, four aces, and four digs for the Lady Rovers.

Kali Powell paced the Brockway defense with 16 digs and chipped in three aces, and Mecca Smith ran the offense with 16 set assists while adding six digs. \

Julie Monnoyer and Whitney Guth each had three kills for Brookville.

CORRY 3, GREENVILLE 0

CORRY, Pa. – Halle Albers had seven kills and eight digs to help Corry to a 3-0 (25-7, 25-16, 25-21) home win over Greenville.

Aubrey Chase also contributed seven kills in the win, while Grace Allen had six kills, six digs, and seven set assists.

Sadye Dyne and Allison Sawyer added five kills apiece for the Beavers while Makenna Moore had nine digs and Bailee McCray seven digs.

Payton McCray ran the offense for Corry with 19 set assists.

GALETON 3, CAMERON COUNTY 2

EMPORIUM, Pa. – In an epic five-set match, Galeton outlasted Cameron County, 3-2 (25-19, 15-25, 25-22, 24-26, 24-22) with the fifth set going nine points over the regulation 15 points to win.

Eve Cole led the Lady Tigers with 11 kills, 24 digs, and four aces while Macey Crowell had eight kills, 13 set assists, four aces, and 13 digs.

Ava Succowich chipped in three kills, three blocks, 15 digs, and four aces in the win, and Lynlee Basile had four kills, eight set assists, 14 digs, and six aces.

Navaeh Spaeth had 12 kills, three digs, and four set assists for Cameron County with Ava Hilfiger adding 11 kills and two set assists.

Hailey McAulay ran the offense for the Lady Raiders with 40 set assists and added six digs.

MERCYHURST PREP 3, ERIE 0

ERIE, Pa. — Oliva Kulyk had 10 kills and 11 digs to help Mercyhurst Prep to a 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-8) home win over Erie.

Addica Sperry added 12 aces, 10 kills, and 10 digs in the victory with Da’Zhana Jordan chipping in seven kills and nine digs.

Eva Dvorak and Mya Fuller each contributed 10 digs in the win, and Julia Seth ran the Lakers’ offense with 25 set assists.

KEYSTONE 3, KARNS CITY 1

KNOX, Pa. – Keystone overcame a slow start to beat visiting Karns City, (12-25, 25-21, 25-19, 28-26).

Gwyn Manno played a key role in the victory with 31 digs and four aces, while Katherin Burrows had a team-high 10 kills for the Lady Panthers and also added 18 digs.

Ava Patrick led Keystone in blocks with five while contributing nine kills and two aces, and Bryanna Mong dished out 10 set assists.

Ava Fox led Karns City with nine kills and nine digs with Haylie Karenbauer adding seven kills and three blocks. Naomi Veneskey also had five kills and two blocks.

Nicole Taylor paced the Lady Gremlins on defense with 15 digs and chipped in two aces, Kendall Ritzert had nine set assists and eight digs, and Ashley Mauer added eight set assists and seven digs.

GENERAL MCLANE 3, GIRARD 0

GIRARD, Pa. – A balanced offensive effort helped General McLane to a 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-19) road win over Girard.

Anna Topel had four kills, four digs, and three aces for the Lancers with Ella Sturgess and Cassidy Swain each adding three kills.

Ellah Beachly paced the GM defense with 11 digs with Marcella Hakanen adding five digs.

Mogan Frick ran the offense in the win with 10 set assists while adding four aces.

Alivia Montgomery had 12 digs for Girard while Laurel Counasse added eight set assists.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 3, DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 1

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – Ciara Toven had 13 kills and an ace to help Punxsutawney to a 3-1 (25-17, 25-20, 25-27, 25-23) home win over DuBois Central Catholic.

Samantha Griebel added nine kills and eight aces for the Lady Chucks with Kylie Diem chipping in six kills and three blocks. Brynn Hergert helped on defense with 11 digs, and Danielle Griebel ran the offense with 27 set assists and also served three aces.

JAMESTOWN 3, ROCKY GROVE 1

JAMESTOWN, Pa. – Madilyn Enterline had seven kills, 11 digs, and two blocks to lift Jamestown to a 3-1 (25-16, 14-25, 25-14, 25-22) win over visiting Rocky Grove.

Alayna Cadman added five kills for the Muskies with Hannah Hart contributing four kills, two set assists, and seven digs.

Emily Enterline helped run the offense for Jamestown with 10 set assists and also added five digs.

Abby Cable had eight kills and three blocks for Rocky Grove while Josie Seely served seven aces and added a kill.

Paige Cresswell chipped in three aces and three kills for the Orioles, and Kaite Beggs ran the offense with 10 set assists while adding two digs.

OSWAYO VALLEY 3, AUSTIN 0

SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa. – Behind 11 kills, nine digs, and three blocks from Olivia Cook, Oswayo Valley took down visiting Austin, 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-22).

Makenna Manning added five kills, seven digs, two blocks, and two aces for the Green Wave, while Laci Miller-Geiger ran the offense with 19 set assists while adding two kills and an ace.

Isabella Reese had five kills and five blocks for Austin, and Ella Brewer added 24 digs.

HICKORY 3, LAKEVIEW 1

STONEBORO, Pa. – Leah Garm had 12 kills, eight digs, and three aces to help Hickory to a 3-1 (26-24. 26-24, 18-25, 25-22) road win over Lakeview.

Zamyra Smith added nine kills and Kkiki Johnson eight kills for the Hornets who also got 23 digs from Teresa Giuseppuci and 15 digs from Arianna DeBlasio.

Bella Multari and Mia Muslin ran the offense for Hickory with Multari recording 19 set assists and eight digs and Muslin 13 set assists and eight digs.

PORT ALLEGANY 3, SMETHPORT 0

PORT ALLEGANY, Pa. – Kayleigha Dowell had five kills and five aces to help Port Allegany to a 3-0 (25-15, 25-11, 25-21) win over visiting Smethport.

Jenna Renner served 10 aces for the Lady Gators, and Isla Lehmier ran the offense with 10 set assists while also serving four aces.

Karlee Tanner had five aces, three digs, and a kill for Smethport, while Elizabeth Hungiville chipped in six kills and two aces. Madi Faes also had nine set assists, two digs, an ace, and a kill for the Lady Hubbers.

GROVE CITY 3, SHARON 1

SHARON, Pa. – A fantastic night from Abby Berry helped Grove City to a 3-1 (16-25, 25-21, 25-10, 25-16) win at Sharon.

Berry had 16 set assists, eight digs, and seven blocks.

Makayla Northcott led the Eagles with nine kills while adding nine digs, Jaya Pesinger had six kills, 10 digs, and 12 set assists, Kylie Mahaffey added six kills and 12 blocks, and Addi Daniels had nine digs and six kills.

Ondrea Young had seven kills and six digs for Sharon with Tay Chester adding six kills and 12 digs and Kylee Hasan five kills and eight digs.

Also for the Tigers, Kylie Weiick had 13 digs, and Jamoria Cumby ran the offense with 23 set assists while adding 10 digs.

PHILIPSBURG-OSCEOLA 3. CLEARFIELD 0

PHILIPSBURG, Pa. – Philipsburg-Osceola took a 3-0 (25-12, 25-13, 25-12) win from visiting Clearfield.

Molly Maines had six kills for Clearfield with Addy Ruiz adding two kills. Hannah Glunt ran the offense with seven set assists.

KANE 3, BRADFORD 0

KANE, Pa. – Maya Smith had 22 digs, five kills, and four aces to help Kane to a 3-0 (25-21, 29-27, 25-21) win over visiting Bradford.

Mia Anderson added 11 kills and six blocks for the Lady Wolves who also got 14 digs from Leah Tigani and seven digs from Ruby Jekielek.

Elizabeth Yasurek ran the offense for Kane with 19 set assists.
