Oct. 19 VB Recaps: Leech Leads Maplewood Past Saegertown; Redbank Valley Tops Keystone

MAPLEWOOD 3, SAEGERTOWN 1

SAEGERTOWN, Pa. – Chloe Leech and Sadie Thomas each reached double digits in kills to lead Maplewood to a 3-1 (25-14, 25-8, 25-27, 25-19) win at Saegertown.

Leech led all players with 19 kills and also chipped in three aces, while Thomas had 12 kills and three aces.

Madison Crawford paced the defense for the Tigers with 10 digs, and Bailey Varndell ran the offense with 34 set assists.

            

REDBANK VALLEY 3, KEYSTONE 1

KNOX, Pa. – Montan Hetrick and Brianna Minich each recorded double-digit kills in a 3-1 Redbank Valley win at Keystone.

Hetrick led the Lady Bulldogs with 11 kills with Minich adding 10 kills. Alivia Huffman (9 kills) and Ryley Pago (8 kills, 2 blocks) were also instrumental in the scoring for Redbank Valley, while the Rearick sisters played key roles on defense led by Brann Rearick’s 24 digs. Caylen Rearick added nine digs and two aces.

Brooke Holben ran the offense for Redbank, which improved to 16-1, with 36 set assists.

Keystone, which fell to 12-2 on the season, got seven kills from Jozee Weaver, six aces and four blocks from Leah Exley, and 12 digs from Emma Burrows.

                          

GENERAL MCLANE 3, NORTH EAST 1

NORTH EAST, Pa. – A big night that saw her record 21 kills, 27 digs, and three aces from Kayle Seidel led visiting General McLane to a 3-1 (25-19, 25-19, 16-25, 25-23) win over North East.

Lilli Mook added 11 kills, six digs, and three aces for the Lancers with Maiden Zietz chipping in five kills, five digs, and three aces, Bailey Cannon five kills, three digs, and two aces, Madison Donahue five kills and six aces, and Brooke Simmons 28 digs.

Jenna Kulka ran the offense for General McLane with 36 set assists and also contributed six digs and two kills.

ROCKY GROVE 3, SHARON 0

SUGARCREEK BOROUGH, Pa. – Quinlynn Keith had seven kills to help lift Rocky Grove to a 3-0 (25-12, 25-17, 25-13) win over visiting Sharon.

Kennedi Winslow added five kills for the Orioles with Abby Williams chipping in four kills. Devin Rhoads paced the defense with 12 digs, and Courtney Clark added seven digs and three aces.

VILLA MARIA 3, CONNEAUT (Pa.) 2

ERIE, Pa. – Behind 22 kills and eight set assists from Karlee Berchtold, Villa Maria outlasted visiting Conneaut (Pa.), 3-2 (13-25, 25-23, 25-22, 20-25, 15-13).

Kasey Smith added 12 kills and five blocks for the Victors who also got seven kills, six set assists, and four aces from Madeline Parks.

                        

Willa Regal ran the offense for Villa Maria with 37 set assists and chipped in three kills, two blocks, and two aces.

JOHNSONBURG 3, ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 2

JOHNSONBURG, Pa. – In an instant classic that didn’t have any of the five sets decided by more than three points, Johnsonburg held off an Elk County Catholic comeback attempt to pull out a 3-2 (25-23, 26-24, 23-25, 22-25, 17-15) win over the visiting Lady Crusaders.

Johnsonburg stats were unavailable, but Brooke Bauer had 14 kills, two blocks, and an ace for ECC.

Also for Elk, Gabby Weisner added 10 kills, Julia Aikens had nine kills and 17 digs, Tami Geci chipped in 22 digs, and Abby Hasselman had 12 digs. Moira Stanisch ran the offense with 36 set assists.

         

DUBOIS 3, WARREN 2

DUBOIS, Pa. – DuBois jumped out to a two-set lead then had to hold off a strong Warren comeback attempt to knock off the visiting Dragos, 3-2 (25-22, 25-18, 14-25, 21-25, 16-14).

DuBois stats weren’t available, but Olivia English (14 kills, 4 aces), Hannah Shattuck (12 kills, 10 digs), and Jordan Sitler (10 kills, 3 blocks) all reached double digits in kills for the Warren offense.

Carly Beers added eight kills, 11 digs, and four aces for the Dragons, while Kylie Fehlman had five kills and three blocks. Katie Madigan paced the defense with 39 digs, and Halee Mineweaser ran the offense with 44 set assists while adding 11 digs, four blocks, three kills, and two aces.

KARNS CITY 3, CLARION-LIMESTONE 1

KARNS CITY, Pa. – Morgan Smith had a strong all-around match with seven kills, six aces, two digs, and two blocks to help Karns City knock off visiting Clarion-Limestone, 3-1 (25-20, 25-20, 22-25, 25-12).

Rosalie Carden added five kills, 12 set assists, four digs, and two aces for the Lady Gremlins who also got five kills, nine set assists, four digs, and two aces from Emma Johns.

Also for Karns City, Amber Mauer had four kills, two set assists, and 11 digs, Ashley Fox added four kills, four aces, 17 digs, and two blocks, and Shavon McCanna had 14 digs and four aces.

Ruby Smith paced C-L with five kills, 10 digs, four blocks, and five aces. Also for the Lady Lions, Celia Shaffer and Brooke Kessler each had four kills, Janelle Pezzuit added nine digs, and Cass Makray had four aces. Kendal Dunn ran the offense with 17 set assists.

GALETON 3, AUSTIN 0

AUSTIN, Pa. – Seven kills from Alli Mackensy helped visiting Galeton to a 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-7) win over Austin.

Olivia Rohrbaugh added five kills and three digs for the Lady Tigers, while Alexis Johnson had four aces, four digs, two blocks, and two kills, and Mackenna Shuemaker added six digs, two aces, five set assists, and three kills. Lauren Sauley also had six set assists and seven digs in the win with Mikayla Shoot chipping in seven digs.

Ella Brewer paced Austin with six digs and Khloe Nicka had four aces.

NORTHERN POTTER 3, BRADFORD 1

BRADFORD, Pa. – Northern Potter used a balanced offensive effort with five players recording either four or five kills to pick up a 3-1 (25-21, 25-19, 29-31, 25-19) road win over Bradford.

Courtney Martin, Rebecca Martin, and Megan Hyde each had five kills for the Lady Panthers with Madison Hoopes and Faith Zdrojewski each adding four kills.

Alix Ordiway had a match-high 12 kills for Bradford with Emma Swanson and Lydia Sarnoski each chipping in seven kills.

CLEARFIELD 3, DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 0

DUBOIS, Pa. – Ruby Singleton had eight kills and two aces to help Clearfield to a 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-19) sweep at DuBois Central Catholic.

Paige Rhine added seven kills and three blocks for the Lady Bison, while Olivia Bender had five kills and Morgan Cheek five kills and six aces.

Lauren Ressler ran the Clearfield offense with 28 set assists.

CURWENSVILLE 3, BROCKWAY 0

BROCKWAY, PA. – Visiting Curwensville swept Brockway, 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-20).

Curwensville stats weren’t available but Kenzi Webster led Brockway with seven kills and three blocks. Zoe Moore added seven digs and two aces for the Lady Rovers who also got 15 set assists and two aces from Ciara Morelli.

KANE 3, PORT ALLEGANY 1

KANE, Pa. – Audri Marconi recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs and also added two aces to lead Kane to a 3-1 (25-22, 25-19, 18-25, 25-22) win over visiting Port Allegany.

Cora Jekielek added seven kills and five digs for the Lady Wolves who also got five kills, five blocks, and three aces from Sarri Swanson and five kills from Rainee Wright. Emma Ely ran the offense for Kane with 32 set assists and added nine digs.

Jade Evens paced Port Allegany with nine kills, two blocks, and two aces. Shannon Curfman added eight kills, eight digs, five aces, and three blocks, Madeline Smith had 10 digs, eight kills, and two aces, and Tori Tanner chipped in 11 digs and two aces.

UNION CITY 3, YOUNGSVILLE 1

UNION CITY, Pa. – Union City topped visiting Youngsville, 3-1 (25-22, 25-14, 21-25, 25-15).

Union City stats weren’t available but Youngsville got 10 kills, 11 digs, seven blocks, and two aces from Andrea Sveda and nine kills and 14 digs from Kamryn Weissinger.

Also for the Eagles, Jena Wilson had 22 set assists and 11 digs, Samantha Wilhelm added 15 digs, and Kenzie Olewiner chipped in 14 digs and four kills.

OSWAYO VALLEY 3, SMETHPORT 0

SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa. – Behind 16 kills, 17 digs, and 10 aces from Jadyn Brabham, Oswayo Valley swept visiting Smethport, 3-0 (25-18, 25-10, 25-15).

Macy West also had 10 kills, six blocks, and four digs for the Green wave with Trinity Lundy recording 14 digs.

Baylee Fitzsimmons led Smethport with 12 digs, Madi Faes added four aces, three digs, two set assists, and a kill, Danielle Nelson had five digs, three kills, three aces, and two set assists, and Alyn Thomas chipped in five kills, two digs, and two blocks.

COUDERSPORT 3, ST. MARYS 0

COUDERSPORT, Pa. – Avaree Keller had nine kills, nine digs, five blocks, and four aces to help homestanding Coudersport beat St. Marys, 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-9).

Bella Butter added four kills and six digs for the Lady Falcons who also got 17 digs, four aces, and two kills from Vanessa VanWhy and 10 set assists, four digs, and three aces from Liz Frame.

SLIPPERY ROCK 3, FRANKLIN 1

FRANKLIN, Pa. – An all-around team effort helped visiting Slippery Rock beat Franklin in four sets, 3-1 (28-26, 23-25, 25-15, 25-18).

Virginia Recchia led the Rockets with 22 set assists, 15 digs, and eight kills with Tiffany Madison adding eight kills and three blocks, Laney McClymond 15 digs, six kills, and five aces, Reagan Duffy six kills and 14 digs, Makenna Shaner six kills and six digs, and Klara Wilson 29 digs.
