Number Six: Lady Owls Best DuBois to Capture Sixth Consecutive D9 Soccer Title

The 2023 District 9 Class 3A girls' soccer champions, the Bradford Lady Owls.

BROCKWAY, Pa. – The Bradford Lady Owls now need two hands to count the number of consecutive District 9 titles they have won.

Rewatch the game:

Rylie Corbett and Kelsea Austin both scored in the first half to send Bradford to its sixth consecutive D9 soccer title, 2-0 over DuBois on for the Class 3A crown on Monday.

Austin earned Allegheny Grille of Foxburg Player of the Game honors.

“I was hoping that we would come out with our very best and we did,” Austin said during the Cole Orthodontic Associates Postgame interview. “Super proud of the girls.

Both of Bradford’s goals came off corner kicks.

It was Corbett that got the scoring going just over eight minutes into the game, giving Bradford a 1-0 lead.

That score held until 3:15 to go in the first half, when it was Austin’s turn, giving the Lady Owls what proved to be an insurance goal.

“We work on corner kicks a lot,” Austin said. “Super thankful that we didn’t give up. If we would have given up, those goals wouldn’t have happened.”

Bradford’s defense also limited DuBois’ scoring opportunities, with Madalyn Stark collecting the shutout in net.

“This meant a lot for us,” said Bradford coach Jim Warnick. “For the seniors, it’s the fourth that they’ve got to play for, so they were really excited for this. This meant a lot, especially since DuBois was one of our losses, so to be able to come here and beat them is a big deal.”

With the win, Bradford advances to play the District 6 champion, either Bellefonte or Hollidaysburg (that game is on Tuesday), in a D6-9 subregional on Saturday. The winner will move on to the first round of the PIAA championships on Tuesday (Nov. 7).
