Moses Runner Late Helps Port Allegany Girls Beat O-E; Austin Tops NoPo in Free-Throw Fest; Clearfield Rallies to top Bellwood-Antis

DUKE CENTER, Pa. – Ella Moses’ runner in the lane with 2:43 to play broke a 35-all tie and helped lift Port Allegany to a 42-39 win over Otto-Eldred.

Otto-Eldred turned the ball over on its next offensive possession, and Kayleigha Dowell hit a bucket with 1:21 on the other end for the Gators (10-4 overall, 9-1 North Tier League) to help put the game out of reach.

                                      

Moses had 16 points, four steals and three assists on her way to Allegheny Grille of Foxburg Player of the Game honors.

“(Cocach) Jamie (Evens) told us in the locker room, a lot of our games lately have been one player doing all of the work,” Moses said during the Cole Orthodontic Associates postgame interview. “Tonight was going to be different. We were going to work as a team and we did that. Everybody showed up.”

Otto-Eldred (7-6, 5-4), which was down seven (30-27) going to the fourth quarter, trailed 32-24 early in the quarter before three consecutive 3’s from Carrie Drummond, Ayla VanScoter, and Kate Rhinehart gave them a 33-32 lead with 4:25 to play.

                          

Dowell finished with 11 points and four steals, five rebounds and two blocks. Brynn Evens finished with eight points and seven rebounds.

Drummond finished with 13 points before fouling out in the fourth quarter for Otto-Eldred, while VanScoter had 11 points.

AUSTIN 35, NORTHERN POTTER 32, OVERTIME

AUSTIN, Pa. – Outscoring visiting Northern Potter 7-4 in overtime, Austin beat Northern Potter 35-32 in a game that featured 74 free throws.

Unfortunately for both teams, neither could hit those charity shots with Austin going 16 of 43 and Northern Potter going 10 of 31.

Northern Potter forced overtime in dramatic fashion.

Down three, 28-25, with 1.4 seconds to go, Lily Steele was fouled and hit the first free throw before missing the second, Emma Haynes got the offensive rebound and score the bunny at the buzzer to send the game to overtime.

But Austin (8-5 overall, 5-3 NTL) hit 4 of 12 free throws in overtime to get the win.

Ella Brewer and Isabella Rees each had two points in overtime.

Rees led Austin with 11 points, 10 rebounds, and six steals with Savannah Horton adding eight points and nine rebounds. Brewer chipped in four points, seven rebounds, three steals, and two blocked shots.

Steele and Haynes led Northern Potter (7-5, 4-3) with eight points each while Haynes and Kayden Brown each grabbed 12 rebounds.

There were 49 fouls in the game with three Austin players and four Nothern Potter players fouling out of the game.

CLEARFIELD 51, BELLWOOD-ANTIS 46

HYDE, Pa. – Cayleigh Walker scored 10 points during a 24-point fourth quarter that helped Clearfield to a 51-46 come-from-behind win over visiting Bellwood-Antis, 51-46,

The Lady Bison (7-4 overall, 5-3 LHAC East) trailed 38-27 going to the fourth quarter but outscored Bellwood-Antis (8-5, 5-2) 24-8 in the final eight minutes to pull out the win.

Behind her big fourth quarter, Walker finished with 20 points to lead Clearfield. Mia Helsel added 12 tallies, Hannah Glunt had nine, and Sonny Diehl scored eight.

Lilly Gerwert led Bellwood-Antis with 16 points with Marissa Cacciotti adding 14.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 46, KARNS CITY 36, overtime

KARNS CITY, Pa. – Visiting Punxsutawney outscored Karns City 10-0 in overtime on its way to a 46-36 win between two of the top teams in District 9.

Danielle Griebel and Emily McMahon both went 4-for-4 from the free throw line in the extra session and Avary Powell added a basket in overtime.

Karns City trailed by two, 29-27 at the end of the third quarter, but Hanna Dailey hit a pair of 3’s in the fourth quarter to bring the Lady Gremlins back.

Karns City played the entire second half without Chloe Fritch, who suffered a first-half knee injury.

Griebel had a game-high 19 points while coming away with four steals, handing out three assists and grabbing two rebounds.

Powell added 13 points, three rebounds and two steals and McMahon had seven points, four rebounds and three steals.

                                  

Brooklyn Taylor led Karns City with 13 points, while Dailey added eight and Savanna Prescott had seven.

Karns City was 19-of-30 from the charity stripe, while making only six baskets in the game.

Punxsy was 13-of-19 from the line.

MONITEAU 62, UNION/A-C VALLEY 32

WEST SUNBURY, Pa. – Catherine Kelly’s sixth 20-point game of the season helped Moniteau roll past visiting Union/A-C Valley, 62-32, in KSAC action.

Kelly scored 20 of her game-high 25 points in the first half and didn’t play in the fourth quarter. She added seven rebounds.

Allie Pry added 12 points in the win for the Lady Warriors (11-3 overall, 3-2 KSAC).

Maddie Dehart led Union/A-C Valley (1-10, 0-4) with 14 points with Kya Wetzel adding 11.

OSWAYO VALLEY 43, GALETON 15

GALETON, Pa. – Eight different Oswayo Valley players scored to lift the visiting Green Wave to a 43-15 win over Galeton in NTL action.

Makenna Manning led Oswayo Valley (9-5 overall, 5-4 NTL) with nine points and 10 rebounds. Charlotte Austin-Keech, Eva West, and Layken Enty each added eight points with Austin-Keech also chipping in four steals and four assists. Brooke George grabbed six rebounds in the win and also netted five points.

Addison Reigle led Galeton (0-13, 0-9) with 10 points.

MOSHANNON VALLEY 46, CURWENSVILLE 26

CURWENSVILLE, Pa. – Fifteen points from Riley Wharton helped visit Moshannon Valley to a 46-26 win over Curwensville in ICC North action.

Ella Berg added eight for the Black Damsels (3-5 overall, 2-3 ICC North) while Madison McCoy had seven.

Addison Butler led Curwensville (0-10, 0-4) with nine points with Brooklynn Price and Briah Peoples each scoring seven.
