WARREN, Pa. – Every once in a while a rare athlete comes around that rises above the rest.

Meadville currently has one in junior Emma Parks, and Parks’ performance on the court this season for the District 10 Class 3A runner-up Bulldogs is why she is the 2023 YDL Sports Network/D9and10Sports District 10 Volleyball MVP powered by TapNPay+.

Parks, a Marquette commit, averaged 5.44 kills per set while recording 588 kills on the season and hitting .357. She also added 2.98 digs per set (322 digs), 52 aces, and 40 blocks.

Joining Parks in being honored with major awards are Corry freshman Grace Allen as the YDL Sports Network/D9and10Sports District 10 Rookie of the Year and Maplewood’s Shelia Bancroft as the YDL Sports Network/D9and10Sports District 10 Coach of the Year.

Allen burst onto the scene for the Beavers this year averaging 2.25 kills per set (239 kills) while helping Corry to a second-place finish in District 10 Class 2A and the PIAA playoffs. She hit .154 and added 91 digs and 20 blocks.

Bancroft, who is Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season, had to replace three of her top players from the 2022 PIAA Class 1A championship squad and still led the Tigers back to the PIAA semifinals before they lost to eventual state champion Elk County Catholic.

With a new setter and a new Libero, Bancroft’s team got stronger and stronger as the season wore on and won the District 10 title with a victory over rival Cochranton before dispatching Frazier and Bishop Canevin in the PIAA playoffs to reach the semifinals.

In addition to the major award winners, YDL Sports Network first- and second-team All-District 10 teams were also named. Those teams are listed below and include a new “catch-all” position called “All-around Impact Player” which is an award given to a player who might not be the best at any one position but is invaluable to her team.
