Karns City Girls Rally Past Moniteau; Clearfield Boys Hold Off DuBois; Union City, O-E Win

Brooklyn Taylor hit a pair of fourth-quarter 3-pointers to help rally the Karns City girls past Moniteau

KARNS CITY, Pa. – Down three going to the fourth quarter, Karns City got a pair of fourth-quarter 3-pointers from Brooklyn Taylor to rally past visiting rival Moniteau, 40-35.

While Taylor was hitting triples, Chloe Fritch made sure the lead stuck by going 7 of 8 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter as the Lady Gremlins went 9 of 10 from the line in the quarter.

Fritch and Taylor each scored 12 points to lead Karns City with Naomi Venesky adding seven points.

Allie Pry paced Moniteau with 11 points with Catherine Kelly adding eight.

While the teams both finished at 7-3 in the KSAC Large School Division, Moniteau is the second-place team in terms of the four-team KSAC playoffs based on beating North Clarion, the KSAC Small School champion, while Karns City lost to the She-Wolves.

                                      

PUNXUSTANWEY 65, HOMER-CENTER 44

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – In the final regular-season home game of her career Chloe Presloud scored 20 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and had seven steals to lead Punxsutawney to a 65-44 win over Homer-Center.

Avary Powell added 11 points, four rebounds, and two assists in the win with Samantha Griebel chipping in 10 points and two assists.

Danielle Griebel handed out seven assists to go with nine points, three steals, and two rebounds for the Lady Chucks. And Emily McMahon added seven points and three helpers.

Macy Sardone paced Homer-Center with 13 points with Molly Ksomack adding 11 and Alaina Fabin 10.

                          

COMMODORE PERRY GETS FORFEIT WIN OVER REYNOLDS

HADLEY, Pa. – Commodore Perry was awarded a forfeit win over Reynolds after the Raiders weren’t able to field a full team.

The game had originally been scheduled for Monday, Feb. 13, and had been pushed back to Wednesday with the hopes Reynolds would have a full squad. But when that didn’t happen, a forfeit was awarded to the Panthers.

CLEARFIELD 59, DUBOIS 55

HYDE, Pa. – Building a 13-point lead going to the fourth quarter, Clearfield held off a late charge by DuBois to pick up a 59-55 home win.

The Bison led 52-39 at the end of 24 minutes of action thanks in part to nine 3-pointers, including five from Cole Miller.

But DuBois fought back hard in the fourth quarter thanks to balanced scoring that saw five different players tickle the twine.

Miller led Clearfield with 26 points with Andon Greslick adding 13 and Braison Patrick nine.

Tyson Kennis had 17 for DuBois with Cam Thompson adding 11 and Maddox Bennett and Aiden West nine each.

DUKE CENTER, Pa. – Otto-Eldred wrapped up its second consecutive unbeaten mark in the North Tier League with a 62-34 win over visiting Smethport.

The Terrors (21-1), went on a 20-3 second-quarter run to take control and put the finishing touches on a 16-0 league mark.

Manning Splain, Landon Francis, and Max Splain knocked down three 3s each in the win, with Francis hitting a pair in the second quarter.

“We were able to hit our shots and play our style of basketball,” Manning Splain, who was named Allegheny Grille of Foxburg Player of the Game, said afterward. “We can all shoot and all get to the rim.”

Francis led a balanced effort with 17 points, while Manning Splain had 13, Shene Thomas 11, Brax Caldwell 10, and Max Splain nine.

Austin Cousins, the Terrors’ third-leading scorer, started on senior night but sat out after the opening seconds to nurse a sprained ankle.

O-E knocked down nine 3s in this game after hitting 15 in the first meeting against the Hubbers.

Preston Alfieri connected on four triples of his own, leading Smethport with 16 points, with Ryan Pelchy adding nine.

                                  

AUSTIN 52, COUDERSPORT 42

AUSTIN, Pa. – Jacob Hooftallen scored 13 of his game-high 25 points in the fourth quarter to help rally Austin to a 52-42 win over visiting Coudersport.

The Falcons led 32-30 after the third quarter, but Austin charged ahead on the strength of Jacob Hooftallen to outscore Coudersport 22-10 in the fourth quarter.

Jacob Hooftallen completed a double-double with 14 rebounds, while Dawson Hooftallen added eight rebounds and nine points.

Also for the Panthers, Brennan Ogden scored four points and hauled down seven boards.

Micah Batso led Coudersport with 16 points with Dylan Howard adding 10 tallies.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 60, HOMER-CENTER 27

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – Using a balanced scoring effort, Punxsutawney beat visiting Homer-Center, 60-27.

Noah Weaver led the Chucks with 12 points with Beau Thomas adding 11 points, Zach Presloid and Ryen Heigley chipping in nine points each, and Jimmie Neese scoring eight.

CAMERON COUNTY 70, NORTHERN POTTER 21

EMPORIUM, Pa. – A career-high 25 points from Josh Smith lifted Cameron County to a 70-21 win over visiting Northern Potter in NTL action.

Smith put a nice downpayment on his career-best night by scoring 12 first-quarter points while helping the Red Raiders to a 22-10 lead at the end of eight minutes.

Landon Farren matched his season-high with 15 points for Cameron County, including eight in the second quarter to help his team to a 39-12 halftime lead.

Ryan Shaffer and Maddox Baughman each chipped in eight points in the win.

Wyatt Kibbe had seven points for Northern Potter.

UNION CITY 55, YOUNGSVILLE 35

YOUNGSVILLE, Pa. – Josh James had 13 points to help visiting Union City to a 55-35 win over Youngsville in Region 3 action.

Connor Wingard added 12 points for the Bears who also got nine points each from Wyatt Post and Bryce Drayer.

Nathan Lucks paced Youngsville with 11 points with Koby Hendrickson adding eight points.

JUNIATA VALLEY 76, CURWENSVILLE 54

CURWENSVILLE, Pa. – Charlie Mattas and Conner Robinson both topped the 20-point mark to lift Juniata Valley to a 76-54 win over homestanding Curwensville that secured the ICC North title for the Hornets.

Mattas led JV with 25 points with Robinson adding 21.

Also for the Hornets, Chris Deihl chipped in 11 points and Reid Edwards had eight.

Dan McGarry paced Curwensville with 14 points with Parker Wood adding 13 points and Andrew Wassil nine points.
