IUP, Gannon, Cal, Slippery Rock Notch PSAC Football Victories

ERIE, Pa. – Continuing its success in divisional openers, the IUP football program built an early lead and used stout defense as part of a 30-13 victory against Mercyhurst on Saturday at Saxon Stadium.
IUP (3-1, 1-0) has now won 11 consecutive Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) west openers and 38 of the last 40 division openers since 1983. The Crimson Hawks continued their success against Mercyhurst (1-3, 0-1), now 7-1 against the Lakers in Erie all-time.

GANNON 27, CLARION 20

ERIE, Pa.– To say things looked bleak in the early going of Saturday’s Homecoming game against Clarion would be an understatement.

Having lost three games already in the latter stages of the fourth quarter, Gannon found itself trailing the Golden Eagles in the PSAC West opener 17-0 just over ten minutes into the game.

EDINBORO, Pa. – The California (PA) football team rallied off 31-unasnwered points on Saturday afternoon to cruise to a 31-10 victory at Edinboro in the opening week of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play.

The Vulcans improve to 2-1 this year and open league action with a victory for the 18th-straight time.

NO. 12 SLIPPERY ROCK 35, SETON HILL 14 

GREENSBURG, Pa. – The 12th-ranked Slippery Rock University football team overcame sloppy weather and a slow start to pull away for a 35-14 win at Seton Hill University Saturday in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division opener from a windy and rainy Offutt Field.

The Rock improve to 4-0 for the fourth straight year and open the PSAC West divisional schedule at 1-0 heading into a showdown next Saturday at home against preseason PSAC West favorite Indiana (Pa.). Seton Hill slips to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in PSAC games.
