Hickory’s Collier, Kane’s Clark Go 1-2 in Javelin as D9/10 Alums Shine at PSAC Championships for Slippery Rock

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women’s track and field team finished second and earned the runner-up trophy, and thrower Jena Reinhiemer was named the Most Outstanding Field Athlete at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships that concluded Saturday evening from Shippensburg University.

Slippery Rock opened the final day of the three-day meet with a bang by scoring 23 points in the javelin, led by a 1-2 finish from Hickory grad Danielle Collier and Kane alum Trinity Clark. Collier won the competition in driving rain and heavy winds with a toss of 47.82 meters. Clark was second at 45.34 meters. Skylar Sherry took fourth with a throw of 40.34 meters to round out the highest-scoring event for SRU over the meet.

The Rock was out front for much of the day but couldn’t hold off a strong charge from Shippensburg late in the meet. The Raiders pulled away to win with 131 points. Slippery Rock fought off a charge from Cal U by placing second in the 4×400-meter relay to lock up the runner-up trophy with 94.5 points. The Vulcans finished third with 88 points, followed by Kutztown in fourth with 66.5 points and Millersville in fifth with 66 points to round out the top five.

Reinheimer took home the top field athlete award after voting by the coaches for her overall performance in the meet. She won the discus Friday and placed third in the hammer throw Thursday, both with career-best marks.

   

                  

Bradford Grad Eakin, Brookville Alum Dworek Help Rock Men to Third-Place Finish

The Slippery Rock University men’s track and field team finished third at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships that concluded Saturday evening from Shippensburg University.

The Rock was in the mix for the runner-up trophy all day before running out of steam late in the day. Shippensburg ran away with the team title with 273 points for its 12th straight PSAC title. East Stroudsburg edged The Rock for second with 106.5 points. SRU finished with 91.5 points for third. Edinboro was a distant fourth with 68 points and Seton Hill rounded out the top five with 66 points.

Slippery Rock finished the day with three All-PSAC honorees in individual events with Bradford grad John Eakin taking second in the shot put and Brookville alum Bryan Dworek finishing third in the 200-meter dash and the 4×100-meter relay team taking second.

Eakin threw a career-best 16.02 meters to finish second in the shot put and pick up eight points. Fairview High grad Eric Schulz placed fifth with a mark of 14.59 meters to give The Rock 12 total points in the event.

                          

Dworek ran a season-best time of 21.97 seconds to place third in the 200-meter dash. Parker Reed was seventh in 22.44 seconds as the duo scored eight points in the team standings. Both men also scored in the 100-meter dash with Dworek placing fourth in 10.80 seconds and Reed finishing eighth in 10.98 seconds.

Dworek and Reed also teamed with Jonathan Marfisi and Bradford alum Mitch Vleminckx to place second in the 4×100-meter relay in 42.24 seconds.
