Gill, Hohman Medal at Powerade Tournament Powered by Luton’s Plumbing, Heating & AC

CANONSBURG, Pa. – Reynolds’ Louie Gill and Grove City’s Hunter Hohman walked away as medalist from the prestigious Powerade Tournament.

                        

Featuring 69 schools and some of the top wrestlers in the country, Gill finished third at 121 and Hohman sixth at 172.

After advancing to the semifinals with Friday’s performance, Gill dropped a 5-0 decision to two-time PIAA champion Nate Desmond of Wyoming Seminary in the semifinals.

Gill bounced back with a 4-2 decision over Tyler Kapusta of Franklin Regional in the consolation semifinals, followed by a 1-0 win over Ethan Rivera of Lake Highland Prep (Fla.) in the third-place match.

Gill, an N.C. State commit, finished the tournament 5-1.

                              

After getting pinned in the quarterfinals, Hohman also had an impressive bounce-back, earning back-to-back wins over Gunner Holland of Osceola (Fla.) via a 1-0 decision, followed by a pin over Omer Barak of Lake Highland Prep (Fla.) in 4:59.

The American commit ended his tournament with a 5-1 loss to Louis Cerchio of Delbarton (N.J.) in the fifth-place bout.

Wyoming Seminary (229 points) won the team title with three individual champions, with St. Edwards (Ohio) second with 187.5 points.
