Franklin, Hickory Notch Big Non-Region Victories; Cameron County Wins in OT; Warren, ECC Stay Unbeaten

FRANKLIN, Pa. – Franklin built a 37-27 halftime lead and held off a late Cathedral Prep rally for a 65-63 win.

Damon Curry helped Franklin (7-3) to the 10-point halftime advantage, scoring 12 of his 16 points in the opening 16 minutes.

The Knights were 3-of-6 from the charity stripe in the fourth quarter, with Jalen Wood scoring three of his 15 points in the fourth to help put the game away.

Damarco Payne scored 10 of his 15 points in the second half for Franklin, while Cole Buckley had nine tallies.

                                      

Franklin has now won four in a row since a 3-3 start to the season.

Nando Mirachi scored 10 of his game-high 21 points in the fourth quarter for Prep (3-6), which saw its three-game winning streak snapped.

Spencer Kanne netted 13 points for the Ramblers, while Michael Thompson had 11.

CAMERON COUNTY 28, RIDGWAY 26, OVERTIME

EMPORIUM, Pa. -Josh Beer’s buzzer-beater in overtime gave Cameron County a 28-26 win over visiting Ridgway.

                          

The teams played to a 26-all tie in regulation and then no one scored in the extra session until Beer grabbed an offensive rebound and then beat the horn to give the Red Raiders (8-2) the win.

In a game played at a pace likened by Ridgway (3-6), Cameron County led 10-7 at halftime and 21-18 going to the fourth quarter.

But the Elkers, behind five points from Ethan Streich and a 3-pointer from Hunter Beeler were able to forge the 26-all tie at the end of the fourth quarter.

Ryan Shaffer led the Red Raiders with 12 points while Beer added seven and Josh Smith six on a pair of 3-pointers.

Beeler paced Ridgway with 10 points with Jackson Kilpeck and Streich each adding seven points.

HICKORY 61, FARRELL 57

HERMITAGE, Pa. – Rylan Dye, Trevor Borowicz and Marco Miller scored 13 points each as Hickory upended Farrell, 61-57.

Hickory hit a pair of big 3’s in the second half, as Dom Uberti knocked down a shot from distance just before the horn at the end of the third quarter to give the Hornets (8-3) a 42-41.

Trailing 53-52, Miller knocked down a shot from distance with 1:35 to go to give Hickory the lead for good, 55-53.

Miller also knocked down a pair of key shots from the charity stripe to help put the game away late.

                                   

Borowicz also had nine rebounds and Miller had three assists for the Hornets.

Danny Odem had a big second half for Farrell (5-2), scoring 18 of his 20 points in the final 16 minutes. JuJu Phillips also netted 18 points for the Steelers.

KANE 61, SHEFFIELD 43

SHEFFIELD, Pa. – A 12-0 second-quarter run put the game out of reach as Kane got a little payback with a 61-43 win at Sheffield.

Kane (6-4 overall, 1-3 AML) surrendered a halftime lead in a loss to Sheffield (4-7, 0-1) in the Sheffield Sports Boosters Holiday Tournament championship game last week. The Wolves made sure history wouldn’t repeat itself Wednesday night.

Leading by five, 16-11, to start the second quarter, the Wolves opened with an 8-0 run. The Wolverines responded with six straight to close the gap to seven, 24-17. Kane slammed the door on another comeback with the 12-0 run.

“It feels great,” Kane’s Dane Anderson said during his Cole Orthodontic Associates player interview. “Losing last week, then coming back and getting it done. It feels great.”

Anderson had a game-high 20 points to earn Allegheny Grille of Foxburg Player of the Game Honors. Sam Lundeen added 14 points in the win.

Dylan Hardwick led the Wolverines with 15 points, while Allan Eaton had 11 points.

ST. MARYS 60, DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 41

ST. MARYS, Pa. – Outscoring visiting DuBois Central Catholic 29-18 in the second half, St. Marys rolled to a 60-41 AML victory.

                                  

The Dutch (5-4 overall, 5-0 AML) led by eight, 31-23, at halftime but rode an 11-point third-quarter from Louis Nedzinski to push the lead to a 17-point, 47-30, lead going to the fourth quarter.

Quin Gavazzi led St. Marys with 17 points with Louis Nedzinski scoring a season-high 13 points. Anthony Nedzinski added 10 tallies for the Dutch, and Matt Davis and Ben Paul each tallied seven points.

Luke Fragle, Marek Hoyt, and Andrew Green each scored 11 points for DCC (5-5, 1-2).

WARREN 80, BRADFORD 45

WARREN, Pa. – Braylon Barnes scored 26 points as Warren improved to 10-0 with an 80-45 win over Bradford.

The Dragons went on a 23-4 run in the second quarter to take a 51-23 halftime advantage in getting their second win over the Owls (4-5) this season.

Warren knocked down 11 3’s in the game, six of which came from Barnes, who scored 16 of his 26 points in the first half.

Barnes was one of four Warren players in double figures, as Brady Berdine connected for 18 points and Chase Sitler and Tommy Nyquist had 11 each. Berdine scored 16 of his 18 in the first half.

Jake Franz led Bradford with 13 points, nine of which came in the first quarter, while Talon Reese added eight.

TITUSVILLE 67, WEST MIDDLESEX 36

WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. – Isaiah Colon connected for 35 points as Titusville knocked off West Middlesex, 67-36.

Hudson Fratus and Devon Kurshinske added nine points each for Titusville (5-4).

Roman Goulb had 13 points for West Middlesex (2-8), while John Partidge added 10.

CONNEAUT 62, SHARPSVILLE 44

LINESVILLE, Pa. – Alex Brady scored 21 points to help Conneaut to a 62-44 win over Sharpsville.

Conneaut (7-2) went on a 26-10 run in the second quarter to take a 38-22 halftime lead.

Shakiir Jordan netted 19 points for Conneaut and Tristan Shealatz 15.

Luke Staunch netted 20 points for Sharpsville (1-9).

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 65, BROCKWAY 23

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Jordan Wasko hit four 3-pointers on his way to a season-high 22 points, as visiting Elk County Catholic rolled past Brockway, 65-23, in AML action.

Wil Wortman added 13 points for the Crusaders (9-0 overall, 3-0 AML) who had nine different players score.

Reese Yahner netted eight points for Brockway (1-8, 0-3).

CRANBERRY 73, KEYSTONE 58

SENECA, Pa. – Ethan Merryman scored a career-high 25 points, as Cranberry continued its scoring spree with a 73-58 win over visiting Keystone in KSAC action.

The Berries (6-3 overall, 1-2 KSAC) have now scored 70 or more points in four straight games.

Blake Marchinke and Connor Morrow each added 16 points in the win, while Landon Baker chipped in 11 points.

Freshman Eli Nellis scored a team-high 19 points for Keystone (2-7, 0-4), while Drew Keth added 17.

PORT ALLEGANY 57, NORTHERN POTTER 40

PORT ALLEGANY, Pa. – Jarrod Funk scored 10 of his game-high 14 points in the first half to help Port Allegany to a 57-40 home NTL win over Northern Potter.

Thanks in part to Funk, who also added eight rebounds, seven blocked shots, and three assists, the Gators (5-4 overall, 5-1 NTL) led 25-12 at halftime.

Braylon Button added 13 points and seven rebounds in the win, while Nick Wilfong drained three 3-pointers on his way to nine points and Isac Amell added eight tallies.
Nolen Smith led Northern Potter (3-7, 2-4) with 12 points.

GALETON 48, AUSTIN 35

GALETON, Pa. – John Martin led a balanced Galeton attack with 12 points to help the Tigers to a 48-34 NTL win over visiting Austin.

Braiden Cimino added 10 points for the Tigers (4-5 overall, 3-2 NTL) with Zach Pagano scoring eight points.

Dawson Hooftallen had 16 points, eight rebounds, three steals, and two blocked shots for Austin (1-7, 1-3) while Brayden Stuckey added 12 points. Brennan Ogden had a team-best 11 rebounds to go with four blocks and four points.

HUNTINGDON 57, CLEARFIELD 51

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – A slow start cost Clearfield in a 57-51 road LHAC East loss at Huntingdon.

The Bison got behind 15-10 at the end of the first quarter.

Jackson Foster led the Bearcats (6-3 overall, 5-1 LHAC East) with 19 points with Ty Boyer adding 17 points.

Evett Maines had 19 points and five rebounds for Clearfield (1-8, 0-6) with Parker Collins adding 18 points and eight rebounds and Anthony Lopez chipping in 11 points and six boards.
