Favorites Hold Serve in D9/10 Quarterfinal Soccer Action

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – No. 3 Brookville scored nine unanswered goals in a 9-1 Class 1A quarterfinal win over No. 6 Clarion.

Ally Wilson and Lauren Castellan both had hat tricks as Brookville built a 5-1 lead. Two of Castellan’s goals came on penalty kicks.

Addison Patton and Hannah Lundgren both scored one goal each for Brookville.

The win for the Raiders avenged a 6-2 regular season loss to the Bobcats on Sept. 19.

Castellan, Kaida Yoder and Evie Smith all had an assist for the Raiders as well.

With the win, Brookville advances to play at No. 2 Brockway in the semifinals on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

(4) ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 3, (5) REDBANK VALLEY 2

KERSEY, Pa. – Elk County Catholic battled to a 3-2 Class 1A quarterfinal win over Redbank Valley.

Seanna VanAlstine, Sami Straub, and Gina Geci each scored for the Lady Crusaders, who built an early 2-0 lead.

                          

Allie Shoemaker had two goals for Redbank Valley, with both assisted by Lia Hageter. Shoemaker’s two goals put her at 51 for her career.

The Lady Crusaders advance to play at top seeded Karns City at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

D10 CLASS 1A QUARTERFINALS

(4) GIRARD 2, (5) WILMINGTON 0

ERIE, Pa. – After a scoreless first half, Girard scored two goals in the first 12 minutes of the second half of a 2-0 D10 Class 1A quarterfinal win over Wilmington.

Abbi Erion scored for Girard two minutes into the second half, which was followed by a goal from Madison Soudan 10 minutes later.

With the win, Girard advances to play top seed Seneca on Wednesday at a site and time to be determined.

(3) MERCYHURST PREP 5, (6) EISENHOWER 1

ERIE, Pa. – Five different Mercyhurst Prep players scored in a 5-1 D10 Class 1A quarterfinal win over Eisenhower.

Sarah Herman, Ireland Kaercher and Milly Pierce all found the back of the net for the Lakers in taking a 3-0 lead at halftime.

                        

Molly Taylor and Merielle Schnars scored in the second half.

Katie Bunk scored for Eisenhower.

With the win, Mercyhurst Prep advances to play No. 2 Mercer on Wednesday at a site and time to be determined.

D10 CLASS 1A QUARTERFINALS

         

IROQUOIS 4, EISENHOWER 0

ERIE, Pa. – Mava Mboko’s two first-half goals proved to be all Iroquois needed in a 4-0 win over Eisenhower.

The Braves led 2-0 at halftime, with Logan Kuhn and Dominic Lingenfelter scoring in the second half.

With the win, Iroquois advances to play No. 2 Seneca in the semifinals on Thursday at a site and time to be determined.

(4) MERCER 2, (5) WEST MIDDLESEX 1

GROVE CITY, Pa. – Joseph Stotsky and Braden Balaski scored just over one minute apart with less than nine minutes to play in regulation, giving Mercer a 2-1 win over West Middlesex.

In a scoreless game, Stotsky broke the ice with just under nine minutes to go to give Mercer the lead. Just over a minute later, it was Balaski, scoring what proved to be the game-winning goal.

West Middlesex got it within 2-1 on Jonathan Erb’s goal with 5:19 to play, but the Big Reds were unable to get the equalizer.

With the win, Mercer advances to play top seed Wilmington in the semifinals on Thursday at a site and time to be determined.
