Farrell, Cambridge Springs Make Statements; Wilmington, Reynolds Win in Dramatic Fashion; Hohman, Summers, Knox Have Big Nights

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The late-game heroics went in Wilmington’s favor this time around.

Tied at 14, Ben Miller’s 4-yard touchdown run with 13 seconds to play lifted the Greyhounds to a 21-14 win over Greenville.

This came on the heels of Wilmington’s heartbreaking loss in the final seconds to Sharpsville a week ago.

Wilmington trailed 14-7 going to the fourth quarter, but tied the game on Aidan Gardner’s 2-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter.

Miller actually got the scoring going early in the second quarter on a 3-yard touchdown run, but the next 14 points went to the Trojans – all in the third quarter.

            

Nick Solderich scored on runs of 17 and 35 yards to give Greenville its 14-7 lead going to the fourth.

Miller had 159 yards on 24 carries for the Greyhounds.

Solderich had 71 yards on the ground and 47 through the air for the Trojans.

FARRELL 24, WARREN G. HARDING 17 (OHIO)

WARREN, OHIO – Juelz Johnson ran for 149 yards and two touchdowns and Farrell’s defense pitched a shutout in the second half in a big 24-17 win over Warren Harding (Ohio).

                          

Trailing 17-16 at halftime, Johnson broke free on a 78-yard touchdown run just past the midway point of the third quarter. Kabron Smith found Simeir Wade for the 2-point conversion, and that was all the Steelers needed.

JuJu Phillips capped the defensive performance by the Steelers with his late-game interception that thwarted any comeback thoughts that Harding had.

Farrell found itself down 10-0 early after a Drew McKowan to Ryan Powell 24-yard touchdown pass.

A field goal on Harding’s next possession made it 10-0, but Farrell responded, with Kabron Smith connected with Phillips for a 49-yard touchdown to get the Steelers on the board early in the second quarter.

Farrell took the lead, 16-10, after a Johnson 7-yard touchdown run.

Harding countered, with Chaz Coleman throwing a 63-yard bomb to LeMarcus Provitt that gave them a 17-16 halftime advantage.

Smith finished 11-of-17 through the air for 169 yards for the Steelers, while Wade had three receptions for 84 yards and also rushed for 40 yards.

REYNOLDS 28, MERCER 27

TRANSFER, Pa. – Gabe Minjarez’s 9-yard touchdown run with three minutes to play rallied Reynolds for a 28-27 win over Mercer.

Minjarez, who rushed for 73 yards, also ran in the 2-point conversion for good measure.

                        

Reynolds led 14-0 af halftime, but Mercer came storming back thanks to a Daemyin Mattocks, who rushed for 174 yards and 16 carries and three touchdowns.

Reynolds took the 14-0 lead on a kickoff return for touchdown by Gavin Alabran and a Xavier Zachrich 7-yard touchdown run.

Alabran, who finished with 116 yards, also had an 11-yard touchdown run in the second half for the Raiders.

Carter Addison was also over 100 yards rushing for Mercer with 110.

GROVE CITY 62, NORTHWESTERN 7

ALBION, Pa. – Grove City rebounded from a Week 1 loss to Avonworth with a convincing 55-7 win over Northwestern.

Eagles’ quarterback Hunter Hohman, who had an 80-yard rushing touchdown last week, took to the air against the Wildcats, throwing for five touchdowns and 325 yards on 17-of-21 passing. He also had 85 yards on the ground.

Gavin Lutz caught three of Hohman’s five touchdown passes and finished with 148 yards receiving, while Nathan Greer had two touchdowns and 139 yards receiving.

SHARPSVILLE 71, TITUSVILLE 48

SHARPSVILLE, Pa. – Caullin Summers became Sharpsville’s all-time passing touchdowns leader as the Blue Devils beat Titusville in a basketball-like score, 71-48.

         

Summers threw for 215 yards and three touchdowns, and ran for three more scores.

Summers had 43 career touchdown passes going into the game, breaking Luke Henwood’s record set back in 2016.

Jaxon Covell had a monster game in defeat for Titusville, accounting for over 400 yards of total offense. Covell rushed for 235 yards and touchdowns on runs of 38, 17, 5 and 2 yards, and also had a 64-yard touchdown reception and finished with 178 yards receiving.

Ian McDonald had 258 yards through the air for Titusville.

Sharpsville has now scored 120 points in its first two games.

OIL CITY 44, CORRY 7

CORRY, Pa. – Ethen Knox surpassed 6,000 career rushing yards as Oil City earned a 44-7 win over Corry.

Knox ran 42 times for 366 yards and three touchdowns for the Oilers, who led 30-7 at halftime.

Despite Knox’s efforts, Oil City’s first two score of the game came through the air in the first quarter, courtesy of Cole Findlay’s 8-yard strike to Gavin Stephens.

Corry actually took a brief 7-6 lead on Nolan Carey’s 47-yard touchdown pass to Mason Savitz, but that was short-lived, as Knox followed with his first touchdown of the game from four yards out.

Kevin Pearsall added a pair of 1-yard touchdown runs in the third quarter for the Oilers.

Findlay was 5-of-8 through the air for 91 yards.

Carey was 6-of-19 passing for 71 yards for the Beavers.

CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS 48, EISENHOWER 0

CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS, Pa. – Cambridge Springs was dominant on both sides of the ball in a 48-0 win over Eisenhower.

The Blue Devils gained 300 yards on the ground while limiting the Knights to just 66 total yards. Cambridge Springs also had a pair of interception returns for touchdowns.

Brett Kania had 24 carries for 138 yards and three touchdowns.

LAKEVIEW 58, SAEGERTOWN 19

SAEGERTOWN, Pa. – Six different Lakeview players found the end zone in a 58-19 win over Saegertown.

Clarence Barber had three interceptions for the Sailors, including one returned for a touchdown, as they built a 38-13 halftime lead.

Leyton Zacherl, Aiden Osborne, Danick Hinkson (receiving), Blake Skiles (receiving) and Mitchell Tingley (42 and 3 yard runs) all found pay dirt for the Sailors, with Zacherl throwing both touchdown passes.

HICKORY 63, FRANKLIN 14

FRANKLIN, Pa. – Zander Telesz ran for two touchdowns and threw for two more as Hickory’s offensive onslaught continued with a 63-14 win over Franklin.

The Hornets have now scored 108 points through their first two games.

Telesz threw touchdown passes of 14-yards to Tylon Cousins and 36 to Will Acrie.

Freshman running back Kelvin Morrison added two more touchdown runs on carries of 25 and 36 yards, and finished with 100 yards on the ground, while Sean Kennedy, Keenan Scullin and Jamal Calhoun also scored on touchdown runs for the Hornets.

Telesz threw for 197 yards, while Kennedy ran for 63.

SHARON 60, WARREN 0

WARREN, Pa. – Sharon continued its torrid start to the season with a 60-0 win at Warren.

The Tigers outgained the Dragons, 417-117, and scored 60 points despite having three touchdowns called back due to penalties. The defense was stifiling again and forced four turnovers, three fumbles and an interception.

Sharon also got an electrifying 91-yard punt return from CC Harrison, who also had a 36-yard touchdown run on his way to earning Allegheny Grille of Foxburg Player of the Game Honors.

“At first I wasn’t sure if I wanted to grab it or not, but I had a teammate telling me ‘Grab it, grab it, grab it, grab it,’” Harrison said in the Cole Orthodontic Associates postgame interview. “So I grabbed it, broke the tackle and just turned on the jets.”

Mister Ham bulled his way in from the 1 to get Sharon on the board just over two minutes into the game. Three minutes later, Harrison sprinted in from 36-yards out to extend the led. Labron Wilder’s 14-yard run gave the Tigers a 20-0 lead with 2:26 to play in the first quarter.

Harrison’s punt return opened the scoring in the second quarter. Six minutes passed before the Tigers were in the end zone again, thanks to a Ethan Engelman 25-yard run. Sharon scored twice more before the half on runs of five and three yards by Ham and Angelo Fromm.

Engelmore connected with Ra’Keem Hughes on a 33-yard touchdown strike in the third quarter, and Cassius Hosey closed out the scoring with a 40-yard run in the fourth.

Sam Harvey led the Dragons with 13 carries for 56 yards on the ground. Hector Cruz had 11 carries for 26 yards.

Eric Dippold was 2-8 passing for 51 yards and an interception. Johnny Corbett caught both passes.

Sharon racked up more than 300 rushing yards, yet no player had more than four carries in the game.

Cortez Nixon had three carries for 100 yards to lead the Tigers’ rushing attack.

Ham was 1-4 passing for 56 yards, while Engelmore was 2-3 for 45 yards. Bishop Root caught Ham’s completion.

NORTH EAST 42, GIRARD 2

GIRARD, Pa. – It’s hard to have much better of a game than North East’s Jamari Curlett did against Girard.

Curlett rushed for 150 yards and two touchdowns and had 177 yards receiving and two more scores in the ‘Pickers 42-2 win over Girard.

They were big plays from Curlett, who scored on passes of 88 and 66 yards from Jackson Humes and also had runs of 65 and 57 yards.

Humes was a perfect 7-for-7 through the air for 275 yards and three touchdowns.

Jeremiah Colon had 57 yards rushing for Girard.

FAIRVIEW 23, HARBOR CREEK 13

FAIRVIEW, Pa. – Vinny Campoli’s 1-yard touchdown run in the third quarter broke a 13-all tie and helped Fairview to its first win of the season, 23-13 over North East.

Michael Gennuso’s field goal in the fourth quarter gave the Tigers some breathing room.

Gennuso’s field goal was his third of the game (19, 26 and 38 yards).

Harbor Creek tied the game on Cameron Herman’s 60-yard touchdown run.

Fairview gained a 13-6 halftime lead on Campoli’s 75-yard touchdown pass to Cooper Blicha.

Tyshawn Jones’ 21-yard touchdown run in the third quarter tied the game in the third quarter before Campoli’s touchdown.

Campoli ran for 107 yards and also threw for 144.

Jones led Harbor Creek with 95 yards on the ground.

MCDOWELL 52, BARBERTON (OHIO) 20

BARBERTON, OHIO – Blayze Myers threw for four touchdowns as McDowell earned a 52-20 win over Barberton (Ohio).

Myers threw a pair of short touchdown passes to Brady Kramer, as well as Dominic Beraducci and Jake Hower.

Stephon Porter had a rushing touchdown and finished with 118 yards on the ground for the Trojans.

MERCYHURST PREP 49, SLIPPERY ROCK 7

ERIE, Pa. – Ja’son Ellman accounted for three touchdowns (two receiving, one on a punt return) in Mercyhurst Prep’s 49-7 win over Slippery Rock.

Ellman caught a pair of 43-yard touchdown passes from Paul Johnson, the latter of whom also had a rushing touchdown.

JJ Ganska had another big game on the ground for the Lakers with 142 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

BUTLER 27, MEADVILLE 26

BUTLER, Pa. – Alec Teff’s 32-yard touchdown pass to Landon Lacey with under two minutes to play gave Butler a 27-26 win over Meadville.

The score came moments after Tahlir McClure’s 2-yard touchdown run had given Meadville a 26-20 lead.

The two teams traded scores throughout the game, with Meadville striking first on Brighton Anderson’s 1-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter.

Teff threw a touchdown pass to David Graef covering 13 yards to tie the game, which was followed by a Lacey 6-yard run to give Butler a 13-6 halftime lead.

Anderson got Meadville within 13-12 in the third quarter on his 2-yard touchdown run, and the Bulldogs got within two, 20-18 on Bradyn Miller’s 39-yard touchdown in the fourth after Noah Ritchie’s short touchdown run had given Butler a 20-12 advantage in the third.

CONNEAUT 32, SENECA 13

LINESVILLE, Pa. – Conneaut won its first home game in nearly three years, 32-13 over Seneca.

The Eagles’ last win on their home field came on Sept. 21, 2020, a 28-0 win over Warren.

Conneaut built a 20-6 halftime lead en route to the win. Joe Furgiuele scored on touchdowns runs of 35 and 83 yards and finished with 200 yards on the ground.

Bea Easler ran for a touchdown and threw one to Phoenix Humprheys to open the scoring for Conneaut.

Nolan Seabury had a pair of touchdown runs for Seneca and finished with 140 yards on the ground.

FORT LEBOEUF 38, GENERAL MCLANE 28

EDINBORO, Pa. – Fort LeBoeuf built an early 21-0 lead and overcame a General McLane rally to earn a 38-28 win.

Conner McChesney had a hand in all three touchdowns in the early going for LeBoeuf. First, it was a 46-yard touchdown run, followed by a 41-yard scoring pass to Damian Blose that made it 14-0 just over four minutes into the game.

Three minutes later, it was McChesney again scoring a 22-yard touchdown run.

McLane got on the board late in the first quarter on Isaac Zietz’s 13-yard touchdown run and came to life in the second.

After a field goal from Xavier Blose, Magnus Lloyd broke free on a 49-yard touchdown run for the Lancers to make it 24-14. With just under a minute to go in the half, it was Zietz scoring again, this time from 20 yards out to make it 24-21 at halftime.

Aiden Lesik gave the Bison some breathing room with his 21-yard touchdown run a the midway point of the third quarter, but Lloyd countered with a 13-yard touchdown run to get the Lancers back within three.

That score held until under four minutes to go in the fourth quarter, when Lesik took it in from a yard out to put the game away.
