Elk County Catholic Girls win PIAA Class 1A Cross Country Title; Prep Girls, Grove City Boys Finish Second in 2A

   

HERSHEY, Pa. – The Elk County Catholic girls’ cross country team will return from Hershey as Class 1A state champions.

The top five finishers for ECC – Grace Neubert (19:14), Sophia Billie (19:42) Sami Straub (19:56), Gianna Billie (6:44) and Katie Straub (22:37) finished with a team score of 63 points, edging Notre Dame Green Pond (71 points) for the state title.

Also running for ECC were Andrea Baron (23:36) and Isabella Macer (23:57).

It was a banner day across District 9 and District 10, as the Cathedral Prep girls (Class 2A) and Grove City boys (Class 2A) both finished second in their respective team races, while the St. Marys girls were third in Class 2A, the Cranberry boys fifth in Class 1A and the Seneca girls fourth in Class 1A.

Neubert finished second overall in the Class 1A girls’ race, while Coudersport’s Kevin Sherry was third in the Class 1A race.

In addition, a number of District 9 and 10 athletes came away with individual medals.

CLASS 3A GIRLS/BOYS

DuBois’ Morgan Roemer was 30th overall with a time of 19:43. McDowell, meanwhile, was 17th in the team standings with 384 points. Logan St. John Kletter of Mt. Lebanon won the individual title with a time of 18:13, while North Allegheny (80) was the team champions.

For the boys, McDowell’s Kamden Kramer finished 23rd with a time of 16:32 and the Trojans finished 19th in the team standings with 453 points. Drew Griffith of Butler won the individual title with a time of 15:23, while Council Rock North won the team title with 134 points.
