Eight D9/10 Players Earn All-State Boys Basketball Honors

LANCASTER, Pa. – Led by Jamestown’s Cam Keyser’s first-team selection in Class 1A, a total of eight District 9 and District 10 players earned Pennsylvania Sports Writers All-State basketball honors.

                  

Elk County Catholic’s Adam Straub was third team in Class 1A, while West Middlesex’s Richie Preston was second team in Class 2A, and Clarion-Limestone’s Jordan Hesdon and Mercer’s Jake Mattocks were third team in Class 2A. Franklin’s Damon Curry was second team in Class 3A, Clearfield’s Cole Miller third team in Class 4A and Cathedral Prep’s Jake Sambuchino was third team in Class 5A.

Keyser, a senior averaged 23.4 points per game for Jamestown and surpassed 1,500 for his career to become the program’s all-time leading scorer. He will continue his career at Geneva College.

Also in Class 1A, Straub, a senior, averaged 6.3 points per game for a Crusader team that won yet another District 9 Class 1A title and advanced to the second round in the PIAA championships.

Preston, meanwhile, averaged 19.1 points per game as a senior, finishing his career with 1,405 points.

                                      

Mattocks, a senior, helped Mercer to one of its best seasons in the last 25 years. He surpassed 1,000 career points and averaged 15.9 points per game as the Mustangs finished as the D10 Class 2A runner-up.

Hesdon averaged 14.3 points per game in helping lead Clarion-Limestone to the D9 Class 2A title. The senior averaged 4.5 rebounds per game, 2.8 steals per game, and 2.4 assists per game.

In Class 3A, Curry was a force for Franklin, averaging 17.2 points per game to go along with 4.5 rebounds per game and 2.9 assists per game in helping lead the Knights to their third consecutive District 10 Class 3A title. Curry, a junior, surpassed 1,000 career points as Franklin advanced to the PIAA quarterfinals.

Miller finished as the third-leading scorer in District 9 at 19.8 ppg and completed a season double-double by averaging 10 rebounds per contest. He also added 3.0 assists per game and 2.0 steals per game. Helping the Bison to a record of 17-7, Miller finished his career as Clearfield’s all-time leading scorer with 1,533 career points.

Sambuchino, meanwhile, was a catalyst in helping Cathedral Prep win the D10 5A title and advance to the PIAA semifinals. The senior averaged 14.0 points per game.
